The Role
Orbitsound is young, dynamic and challenges the traditional 'getup' of every other company in this field I have seen to date. I personally enjoyed working for this company to a great extent; it is refreshing to shake things up, sell a unique line of products and most importantly, be valued and rewarded for achievements.
In many companies it is easy to simply fall into the "small cog in a large mechanism" structure - this was not one of those companies. Management at the very top will know who you are and frequently make contact and see if there is anything they can do to help you. No-one is unapproachable and everyone was friendly.
My immediate manager was one of the hardest working people I have ever met. Anything I asked or queried, no matter the difficulty was addressed to the best ability; in short, support and guidance were spot on. Management above that, however, could sometimes send some confusing information about commission structures or competitions but in the grand scheme everything was excellent.
Retail is retail. During busy periods it was possible to lose track of the day due the manic but fun nature. During quiet periods it was always possible to become bored, however, the quieter time often allowed for staff training and relationships to be created with other companies.
A relatively large amount of responsibility; I was in charge of sales in that store from the word 'go'. I would not say that I was necessarily "chucked in the deep end", as my manager would stop by for training or just to see how I was doing, but to keep things running I had to think on my feet and be constantly proactive. Its difficult to imagine how much more autonomy they could provide without severing the constantly connected feeling of support.
I believe that working this company has provided and refined a great deal of skills for myself. I can't say that retail is where I wish to work indefinitely, however, the skills I have acquired from working for Orbitsound are certainly relevant and helpful in everyday life and will ultimately help me in the future also.
The Company
The atmosphere in headquarters was always bustling - staff were friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. Time spent in headquarters, however, was only for event days and training, most of my time was spent in certain stores. Depending on the store location, time of year and time of day it was possible to be stood around waiting to being rushed off of my feet.
On the whole, my job was explained and laid out very well - I knew where I had to be and what was required of myself. Occasionally, confusion could arise when conflicting or vague emails about certain aspects of my job appeared but this was pretty rare and often addressed later.
To put it simply, help was on tap whenever I needed it. Training and support is something Orbitsound does supremely well, far better than any other company I have worked for.

If you enjoy this area of retail then future employment prospects for this company are certainly possible and definitely appealing. Achievement and recognition is again something that Orbitsound excels at.
The Culture
Working for Orbitsound put me directly in contact with a variety of interesting people of all ages, in particular, people of my own age. The social side was very good, I used to look forward to going to work because I would be working with specific people that day. Drinks, meals and nights out were planned most weekends.
The cost of living in the area I worked was very high, but the social aspect was very good and more than made up for it, hence the 5 rating! Locals were relatively friendly and being a student in a student area meant the social side easily possible.
Where I worked/lived was close to a student area, so the nightlife was on the whole very good. Drinks and events were relatively cheap and always fun.
The area I lived in was always thriving with students and there were many opportunities, in particular opportunities provided by people I had met through work or by the university. The area was also quite a large city, its difficult to be short of activities in a city!
