The Role
Great job talking to customers every day and had a great team to support and work with
definitely was made to feel welcome and like part of the family!
whenever it was needed, there was someone there to ask. It wasn't always the line manager but it was always someone who knew what they were talking about. You could even ring the managing director for help!
Some days were busier that others but if you're like me and try to make everything your own business, it is all about using initiative to make the store how you would want it if it was your own business.
I was given as much responsibility as if I had been there for years. Looking after the store after my first weekend and helping with conference calls etc on a regular basis
Unlike a degree that is all about exams and the paper certificate, this gave me the ability to actually DO everything. Theres no point trying to run a business in the future without experience. Getting a degree doesn't help you put it into practice.
The Company
I wasn't in an office but the shop floor was always a nice place to work. I was in currys and John Lewis and although both differed greatly, I found it fun to get to know all the staff etc. Its all about what you make of it though. I know someone who used to work for Orbitsound that wouldn't stop complaining etc but its because they didn't put themselves out there. They didn't try make friends with the staff they were working with so obviously relationships are down to how much of a people person you are.
Like with any job or internship theres always a few things that aren't perfect but what I can say is most things were well organised all of the time. The business seems to be very well structured thanks to great HR and management.
A lot of people were always there to help.. If I was struggling with anything I didn't have to even ask for help to get it. There was always more than enough help there to develop. A lot of the internship was about learning how you do things yourself and being given the flexibility to develop yourself as an individual.

The future employment prospect is what enticed me in the first place! If you want to earn your worth and progress because you deserve it, then this definitely is the right place to be. The management recognise you when you work hard and put a lot of time into you if they can see you want to develop and learn new roles.
The Culture
The social element was all about throwing yourself out there and getting to know the people that worked with you in the stores. I enjoyed getting to know people. Going on nights out/cinema/pub. Because everyone that works for Orbitsound lives in other places in the country, it would be almost impossible to socialise with other members of Orbitsound on a regular basis however our team did win a team competition which meant we were on a group night away and went to the ski slopes in manchester. There was also a really great even in July which you had to earn the right to attend. We stayed in a swanky apartment in central london and had a great mid week break!
Suppose this depends where you live and how much a pint is.. The company gave me a perk box account so I got discount in most places anyway
I wouldn't say the clubs are the best in the world but I enjoyed the bars and restaurants a lot!
Not too many but whenever there were I used to take them up.
