    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed meeting and talking to so many different people on a day to day basis and reaching my personal goals on a daily and weekly basis. There were always some sort of competitions to help motivate everyone which gave me the opportunity to win a few of their products!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • One of the things that stood out to me about Orbitsound is the close knit team they have and this is not limited to one department, but the whole company operates in this way. You are recognised for your work by your Manager but also the extended team including the management team which is not something you experience often, that really makes you feel valued and part of the Orbitsound family.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • When I started this role, I had no past experience in Sales but had a willingness to learn. The Manager that trained me, was very supportive and encouraging. I really felt I could contact my manager about any query or issue no matter how small it may be. From my experience, all the Managers and Head of UK Sales make a huge effort in getting to know you so you don't feel like you are calling your boss but more a colleague and/or friend.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • How busy you are really varies on the time of year. However, there is always something that you can be doing to reach your goals. How busy you are depends on you and how well you want to do each day, I wouldn't let the footfall in store determine how busy you are which can be very easy to do.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt I was given quite a a lot of responsibility. I feel that being chosen to represent any brand or company independently in store without constant supervision, is a huge responsibility. The way you portray yourself, come across and interact people is the image they take away of the brand and that is really important for a small company like Orbitsound. The store I worked in was my responsibility, the staff within that store were also my responsibility to train and educate, along with the customers I encountered daily.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills learnt in my role as a Sales Representative are definitely transferable to all aspects of your career and life. Doing this role, definitely gave me lots of confidence as I was quite reserved before. I did Law at university, the communication skills I further developed within this role were invaluable to my studies and my current role. The other real benefit working for quite a small company is the commercial awareness you gain, which you do not often get from doing a part time role.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I didn't work at the head office, so I would class my daily 'office' as the store I worked at, which I really enjoyed. I had the challenge of getting the staff in that store to learn and support my sales which resulted in some good friendships. In regards to the Orbitsound head office, I would visit on training events and contact when I needed materials to support me. The atmosphere at training sessions was always really fun, there was no corporate feel to the atmosphere at the office and the team there were always welcoming and friendly.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The whole process from interviewing to starting my role was simple and straight forward. Everything was explained to me by my manager effectively.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • For me personally, I feel the company invested in me 110%,I started the role as a Sales Rep with no experience, I learnt and proved myself and then was given the opportunity to work at the head office as I wanted more work, again, full support and training was provided and I never felt that I couldn't approach anyone for help or questions. I was then offered a full time position after my studies in the field I wanted and had the opportunity to propose how I want to further my career with Orbitsound based on my experience so far and I have been given the support and encouragement to do so. A lot of my colleagues started of working part time and developed within Orbitsound as Orbitsound really does value its staff and encourages professional growth.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I now work full time for Orbitsound and still look forward to further developing my career with Orbitsound as I have been given the support and encouragement to do so. I work closely with several other people who all started working for Orbitsound as Sales Representatives and now have full time roles within the company.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As the role requires everyone to work independently in different stores throughout the UK, there is not a huge social scene amongst students/colleagues. However, Orbitsound do arrange company training and social events throughout the year which have always been very fun.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I worked as Sales Representative in my home town and lived with my parents, so the cost of living for me was cheaper than anyone renting themselves. The cost of socialising again was very reasonable in the area I lived and work.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in my hometown isn't very exciting! However, working for the head office now in London gives you plenty of opportunities and even before I worked in London, London wasn't a long commute from my home town.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were opportunities to get involved and socialise with the extended regional sales team. Orbitsound is the kind of place, if you have an idea when it comes to work or social events, they will help you implement the idea. The communication between the regional teams was really important in creating and wanting to do more socially with them. The managers are really great at initiating and creating a forum for you to interact with your extended team.
