    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very happy with the work offered it allows your to represent the brand within the John Lewis store and also inform partners of how our products work and what they are all about. Orbitsound colleagues are very friendly and great at training, they are helpful along getting used to different roles and always are available if you need any help or advice.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I would say that Orbitsound does value every individual, they ensure that you are okay with what you have been asked to do, aswel as offering support each step of the way. We recieve numerous calls from managers to ensure that we are up to date with current market information in addition to this, daily updates in term of sales figures.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The managers have been a great help, always bein available to talk and offer advice on how to develop yourself. Also when being on the shop floor its great to have a manager work alongside you to introduce new techniques to adapt. This was done fantistically by Jigar who has really helped me develop my sales pitch and close some important sales.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • in John Lewis there is always something to be doing, this can be updating demo content so that its tailored to customers. in additional to this, you can clean the products and also more importantly train partners. this will help build a great relationship by letting them understand the technology and also having a hand on approach with the products.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good amount of responsibility as I had to undertake a number of different tasks. These were explained well and in detail so that before I started I was confident in what I was doing.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think this particular role has allowed me to develop social skills and integration a lot more, as I have worked in sales roles before. Orbitsound has been a different but interesting experience, we get to learn about new products and how they impact the market (e.g Google chromecast audio). Also I have improved my customer service as I now believe that I am a better listener which helps when I am understand customer issues and also tailoring products to different customers.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • everyone in the office is fun and friendly and made a great effort to include me, from the very first day I felt like I had already been here a while. This was something that I had never experienced in any of my previous jobs, I like the way everyone works together in the office and if you do require and help or advice someone is always willing to give you time to explain.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation was great I sent my documents via email and started the same week. Everything about the process was organised, clear and concise. I knew exactly what my job roles where and where I needed to be. Also the training material was sent straight away which really allowed me to get learning straight away.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Orbitsound offer great personal training and development , personally I think that the conference calls where a great help as we could offer different advice to other sales colleagues and really get an understanding of the team that I was working within. The managers and training staff aalways where available if I needed any help and when we did particular sales coaching I could even opt for a 1-1 learning session. This was a real help as they were flexible and still made time for each of us as individuals.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing I am enjoying my role at Orbitsound and believe that I can be a valuable member of the organisation. I believe the company has a great deal to offer and the more people that understand our products and are shown them will invest in our company. Not only do we provide great products to the market but make it fun and easy for everyone to use.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • yes we recently had a great events dinner to celebrate achievments over the previous year, this was a good time as we could intergrate with new colleagues that I hadnt met before.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I would say it is fairly priced in terms of cost of living. Food and travel is fairly priced but obviously depends where you are coming from.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife in london is great you pretty much have unlimited choice. Whether you want to go for a nice meal, or a casual drink central london has a place to cater for all.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • yes regulary we would plan to go for dinner this would help intergration. Also within the sales roles they are monthly competitions these would be great as all colleagues would try to exceed targets so that we can have a day out provided by the company.
