    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed working for Orbitsound. As an extremely self-motivated individual I was given a lot of freedom in the work place, which for me was very important. I was also given the chance to work at show events, such as the Ideal Home Show, which was a fantastic experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I definitely felt valued by my colleagues. I always got on very well with the whole team and everyone was very welcoming and approachable, especially when I first joined. Meeting the regional and sales managers at the training days in the head office definitely made me feel like an important part of the company.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a one-to-one training day by my regional manager when I originally started working for Orbitsound, and after that we had valuable training days in the head office in London where we were given a lot of support and guidance. Overall I always had an extremely good support network. Everyone in the company is very approachable and will always find the time to help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Throughout my time at Orbitsound I worked in three different stores. Every store was different in terms of how busy the store was, Weekends were normally reasonably busy. I also got the chance to work shows, such as the Ideal Home Show. Workings shows were incredibly busy and you had to be on the ball at all times throughout the day

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility during my work placement, but this is something I really enjoyed. To make the most of the responsibility that is given to you it’s important to be self-motivated and to have a positive work ethic, while having the drive to also grow and learn.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Orbitsound enabled me to develop many transferable skills that I have used both in my degree at university and will continue to use in the workplace. Before working for the company I probably would have been described as fairly reserved and withdrawn, however after working for Orbitsound my communication skills have improved greatly and I am now able to communicate ideas succinctly and with confidence.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was great. Everyone in head office was always very enthusiastic and approachable which I really found important. Additionally, the sales team all over the country were normally put into regional teams. The sales teams didn't necessarily work in an office environment, but all teams always had fun together and were in contact all the time.

They set up group training events at head office and additionally there are so many opportunities to work with your manager one-to-one for the day.
