The Role
Working at YouView is great! The team i was assigned to were really easy to work with and were extremely talented and professional. Team lunch and drinks were a regular event and these were always enjoyable being in the centre of London with lots of choice. The social committee do a great job at organising events such as football 5 a side Mondays which i always looked forward to.
I felt very valued by my colleagues as they trusted my ability throughout my internship and often provided positive feedback. As part of demonstrating my project i would often be trusted to present to other people around the company as well as BT and Talk Talk. I wasn't treated like an intern i was treated like a normal employee and this made me feel part of the company.
With the office being fairly open and relaxed you can easily get support from your team. My mentor was always available to help when needed along with other members of the team. Code reviews were managed by a different team and a lot of support and guidance was also done through this. If i ever needed developer support or was unsure about an issue i would raise it in team standup or speak to my mentor and it would get resolved very quickly.
Very busy. However, i enjoyed it and i never felt stressed. . YouView allows an hour for lunch as well flexible working hours.
The interns were set a project to raise £1000 for Apps for Good and we had to work together to setup different fundraising events. We did a Mario Kart tournament, 10k runs a raffle and a bake sale. I was given a lot of responsibility for my project since i was the lead developer. Having responsibility is great as it gave me the opportunity to have control over the project from a development perspective. Furthermore, my project was a software project that will be running on the YouView device which meant i had to take responsibility to ensure that it meets the companies high standards since it will be running on over 2 million devices.
I learned some key skills at YouView such as learning new programming languages and using new technologies. These will likely assist me in getting my degree as i am hoping to use some of these new technologies as part of my dissertation. Beyond this i have learnt project correctly and i now have confidence in working with other developers.
The Company
Calm and open. Everyone was very friendly.
Very well organised i was given my own project to work on.
They invested a lot in me and as a result i can take away new skills and they can take away a successful project.

The Culture
The intern group often went out for drinks a few times as well as intern lunches.
Travel was expensive living outside London but the location was great. Socialising can get expensive but you can find some good value places.
Pretty good as its the centre of London
The social committee run a football 5 a side event as well as a running club and a cycle to work scheme.
