The Role
I really enjoyed my internship at YouView. They have an excellent atmosphere with everyone being incredibly welcoming and forthcoming with advice. they gave a lot of exposure to a lot of parts of the company with the freedom, to go and ask what other people were working on and work on your projects that you could possibly see going into production.
As a junior, they still treated me incredibly well, and were very helpful if I had any questions and they treated me with a huge amount of respect. It was very easy to get on with everyone and there is a place for everyone at this company.
They were ready to help out whenever I had a problem, and didn't grow annoyed with me if I asked them similar questions multiple times. A the same time, they still trusted and gave me the freedom to work at my own pace, and a chance to work out any problems before asking.
I wasn't busy throughout the entire internship, but this is not the only company I have experienced this at. There was plenty to do though. It was a good level as there was many things to complete if you didn't have any work from your line manager. A good balance!
I was given useful work during my internship where often the tickets I was resolving, would be put in production and used soon after. I was also allowed to choose a project that would improve the systems used in the future. We also could run events for charity so we could contribute back to the community as well.
I gained a better understanding of some of the tools they use in tech companies, while understanding their significance and role in the software methodology being used. I also gained more experience in being able to properly articulate what I wanted to share using technical terms alongside in a way that a layman can understand.
The Company
The office atmosphere was pretty relaxed, with people collaborating in an informal manner, making it much easier to come to decisions on what they are working on. The casual dress code allows people to express themselves and there are groups for a huge range of areas for employees to get involved in.
The original interview and application process was pretty simple and no-nonsense, with things generally well-prepped, as we were given our laptops on the first day and could start working. There were some admin things that needed to still be taken care of but they were also dealt with, within a week. We also had events that were organised throughout the internship for us to take part in.
Throughout the entire internship they were checking what skills I would like to develop and then change some of the work that I was doing in order to match the skills I wanted to develop further. They also allow you to access Linkedin learning to develop more of your skills.

There are a lot of opportunities for you to return for another internship or possibly into the graduate scheme. They have a talent team that meet with you during the internship to see how your development and how you are enjoying the internship. They also ask about you being interested in returning to the company.
The Culture
There is a really good social scene linked to this company. There was a summer party as well as team lunches. They also organise night outs that everyone is invited to if they wish to go out. There are also sport clubs like running and football, as well as bake sales and charity events.
Since I had to commute to work, the most money I spent was on the train tickets but regarding the socialising, the company bore the cost a lot of the time for many planned activities, like the summer party or the team and there were clubs where you could play board games or play football, that you didn't need to even pay for.
There are numerous nice bars around, and definitely quite a few ones that would probably fit into your price range, while not being your run of the mill pubs, but some niche types with multiple specialities so you can definitely always try something new, while being situated quite close by.
There is a small number of opportunities to get involved in such as the 5-a-side football, board games and the running club. There is also some small number of opportunities to get involved with a charity but they come from the charity itself. However, many people are happy to form small groups all the time.
