The Role
Working with Emerging Technology Team, I really enjoyed my time interning at YouView as I worked on the diverse projects. I was exposed to some of the recent technologies, and I feel like I've learned more than I anticipated working in agile environment, and I find working there fantastic together with other interning cohort, and being involved in the social event such as weekly football games.
I felt valued because my team teammates were really keen to help and find me a relevant help as much as possible. And they would value my opinions and take them into consideration in meetings. I simply felt as a part of the team or a normal employee.
The support I was given was substantial, because my supervisor whom we were in the same team, was keen to help or direct me to the any support I needed. We'd sit together twice or more a week and discuss my progress or challenges I might have been encountering, and we would sort it satisfactorily.
In the beginning, when I was familiarising myself with the their platform, I was not that busy, but as the time moved, I got busier, but in manageable manner. In nutshell, I had something to work on every time, cause as I mentioned, I would meet with my supervisor to set some goals after I am done.
I worked on three projects - two of them on small scale, which set me on track and get familiar with their technologies, and prepared me for my last main final project, which I worked on rest of my time there. I think my manager had a trust in me and was willing to find me opportunities to work with other developers from other teams, which was quite eye opening.
I believe working at YouView pushed me to learn more. For one, I had to learn some the new technologies I had not been exposed to, and people on my team were more than willing to give their time and help me. There is also weekly workshop on Thursday, where anyone is invited to attend and learn about some of the new cutting-technologies. Overall, I learned a lot some of the the industry leading technologies, and I had ground to practice them, which made it optimal learning for me.
