The Role
The internship was very enjoyable. I received a set structure for the course of the time I was with the team and was always kept busy either learning new things or carrying out tasks to help towards the success of the team. There was never a dull moment and I was doing new things most weeks, whether that be candidate meetings, advert writing or shadowing on client visits.
I always felt valued by my colleagues as I was helping them towards making placements etc. The team environment and praise within the business was excellent and I was always encouraged by my colleagues in whatever I was doing.
Both my manager and my mentor were very helpful. If I had any questions/queries or was unsure of anything they were always happy to help and were very supportive and patient.
I never had a day without something to do. The structure of the plan ensured I was completing tasks on a daily basis and in a set time meaning I was never bored or clock watching. The tasks allocated were interesting and I learned something new every week.
I was given responsibility during the placement. It was very much me doing my own thing and not just constant shadowing. Whether it be creating adverts, candidate calls and leading candidate meetings, after my training I was able to and given these things to do by myself. However, I would have liked to have made my own placement during my time.
The communication skills I have gained will always stay with me, coinciding with the confidence I have developed to be able to speak to anyone. I have also become more resilient which I will take forward in any career move. The internship has also allowed me to gain much more self-confidence and self-belief and jumping straight in allowed me to overcome any fears I had in the work place.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was great. It's very much a team based culture and everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. Although everyone is here to work, it was a very fun atmosphere to be in. One important thing that stuck out for me was the praise colleagues gave each other, whether it be because they made a placement or due to a promotion. Everyone supports each other.
Very well organised. I had a set structure from the start and pretty much stuck to it unless obviously I had an ad-hoc project or task.
They invested a lot over the eight week period. I had three weeks of training/learning how the system works and how a consultant operates. I then had the chance to go round all the individual teams and learn from different perspectives. All managers were very helpful and keen to get me doing real tasks.
Very appealing. There is the opportunity to go onto the graduate scheme the following year or also join the team you were with potentially as a hired consultant.
The Culture
Yes, even with colleagues as well. Regular trips to the bar bank next door on a Friday as well as a quarterly bash we were lucky enough to attend.
I lived with my parents whilst doing the internship.
The nightlife in Birmingham is really good and lively. Plenty of bars, pubs and clubs.
not overly. Some people within the team played badminton on quite a regular basis.
