The Role
I was thoroughly involved with the team who were supportive and friendly. I saw every aspect of the life of a recruitment consultant.
My colleagues were happy to delegate work to me and were pleased with my results. We also went out after work which was nice to socialise with the team, some pub lunches and pizza express visits were enjoyed along the way!
One of the members of my team had gone through the intern process and grad scheme and so she was very supportive through my time as an intern. She offered me invaluable advice on the grad scheme, which I am more certainly considering.
There is never a dull moment in recruitment- from email and inbox coordination, candidate sourcing, job hunting, on the phone for at least 2 hours a day (is the aim) to interviewing candidates. I was also fortunate in the fact that I travelled to the other regional offices including Guildford and Reading.
I was heavily involved in the job sourcing and candidate interviewing stages. However I would loved to have become more involved with the client side of things, yet I understand that to forge a relationship with the client as an intern and then have to leave is not the ideal situation for the company and the team moving forward.
Recruitment involves constant communication with your team, candidates and clients respectively whether verbally or written in an email. The value of communicating is one for life, as well as listening closely and attentively to the clients and candidates wishes and requirements. Other significant skills I have learnt is organisation, stamina (long hours) and resilience as it's a tough job which is both proactive and reactive in its nature.
The Company
I was based in the head office in Weybridge and so there was a hardworking but social atmosphere, prosecco was brought into the office on a Friday afternoon which was a nice treat!
I was given enough to do, and my manager gave me an excel timetable to organise what I would be doing on a day to day basis.
The training was amazing and they paid for our group to travel up to Manchester for a 2 day intensive course. The fact that they are now keen to have me on their grad scheme proves their 91% rejection rate. In other words, Page highly promote internal and career progression which is great to see.
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
It is appealing as the company rewards hard-work and results with fast progression and incentives including bonuses, car allowances, team rewards and potential all-paid for holidays.
The Culture
I had one other intern with me and we have supported each other through the process. I have gone on numerous lunches with other new starters/grads from my office which was lovely to build relationships with other teams including HR and finance. I have been to lunches with my team at lunch time and after work to celebrate the end of the quarterly!
Expensive pub but that is unsurprising as the Surrey area is affluent.
I never went clubbing during internship, I do not think I could have handled the hangover during working hours the next day. The closest nightlife would be Guildford or Woking which is not great to say the least!
Dinners and after-work drinks were a regular occurrence, and the company hosted a summer BBQ at the local cricket club with sports and booze combined which was a great icebreaker and fun in the sunshine.
