    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I very much enjoyed my internship. From the first days I received quality training and was able to put this into practice during the remainder of my time. My team was really supportive and the working environment was great. There was a good team dynamic and atmosphere which made the internship enjoyable. The tasks I was given were interesting and insightful.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the first day in my office I felt like a member of the team. Each of my colleagues offered me support and guidance, and also recognised and supported my achievements. There was a great office atmosphere and everybody was easy to get on with. I was made to feel like a valued member of the team and that the tasks I completed contributed to the success of the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given great support and training in my internship. Initially this came from my two designated training days in the London Head Office. When I arrived at my local office I was given great support from my manager. Throughout the internship I was given constant support and guidance from every team member. I was learning right up until my last day!

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Due to the nature of the job some days were busier than others. I had a number of tasks I was expected to do on a daily basis. On other days when the office was particularly busy I would have a greater number and variety of tasks to complete. On the quieter days my colleagues helped me by getting me to listen to their calls- I was always busy in some way or another.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As my internship progressed I was given greater responsibility. At the beginning I had few and simple responsibilities. As I progressed and got to know the recruitment process I was tasked with greater responsibility this included writing adverts, liaising with international offices and sourcing potential recruitment consultants. My colleagues always checked I felt comfortable with the amount of responsibility I carried.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I have developed during the internship with be of fantastic value to me in the future. I have developed my confidence and professionalism. Moreover I have gained industry specific insight and commercial exposure. The sales atmosphere in which I operated taught me how to work to targets and deadlines and how to think on my feet.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in my office was great. There was a great team dynamic and "banter" atmosphere. There was a core of familiar faces but also people coming and going from all over the region. My office hosted a number of competitive business development days across the region which resulted in a buzzing atmosphere. The office atmosphere was one of the most enjoyable aspects of my internship.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was very impressed by the organisation of the internship. From the first interview to the Intern Graduation day. The initial training I received was very thorough and informative. Whilst working in my local office I was in regular contact with the internship organisers and received weekly internship reviews and questionnaires. Overall extremely well organised.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • PageGroup certainly invests in its interns. We receive the same initial training (2 day course) as any new starter. Moreover we are given the same access the candidates and the computer system as all employees. Interns are invited to team training and team socials. I great quality training, something that would be expensive for PageGroup, but this certainly aided my performance during my time there.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. I have seen the support that new starters receive and the opportunity for progression and success within the company. Recruitment is a fantastic industry, and one I will certainly consider after leaving university.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was the only intern in my office- but the social scene with my other colleagues was good. We often went for team drinks. On training and graduation days when all the interns were together there was a lively social atmosphere. We often went for drinks in Central London. As an intern I was able to work sociable hours so it left me time to socialise with my friends outside of work too.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home so didn't incur to many costs. Travel costs were a pain as I got the train to and from work everyday. On days where I went to other offices my train was paid by the company- really useful. Costs were basic- lunch, travel and nights out. Many of the larger nights out were paid for which was also really useful- especially as a student!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I worked very close to home so the nightlife was my local nightclub. Guildford had a good range of bars for drinks- useful for team nights out. In a city there would be a better nightlife- but in general you cant really expect to go clubbing every night and get up and be at your best the next day. Nightlife wasn't really an important factor in the internship.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As an intern is didn't really get involved in the opportunities outside of work. Many of my colleagues did have the opportunity to take part in charity weekends for teenage cancer and whilst I was at PageGroup other colleagues took part in a fundraising for a Triathlon. I did get involved in team and region nights out and activities- including an apprentice style day in Central London.
