    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the placement. I was assigned a number of tasks by my manager, each one with good objectives for my own development. I also took part in a group project with the other summer interns which was a good contrast to the individual work.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues within my department showed a keen interest in the work I was doing and my own personal background. They also took time to help me with my own projects or have a discussion about their own careers. I received lots of advice from people over the 8 week period.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager offered guidance and advice every single day of the 8 week period. They helped me not only with my personal projects and group project but also to understand the various opportunities available to me within LR. The placement supervisor met with me weekly to discuss my progress and future opportunities on the graduate scheme.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The combination of the individual projects, group project work and also additional networking and training opportunities meant I was never short of work to do.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I took part in genuine LR projects which would have otherwise been completed by members of my department. I was expected to work out my own solutions to the problems given and find information myself.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed built on my university education, and will help me in my final year. Additionally the group project has given me preparation for working in groups in the future.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was relaxed and easy to work well in, a good working environment. People were able to talk freely with each other when needed which made for a more lively office.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very organised. The organisers had a set plan for the placement.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. We had the opportunity to meet with current and previous graduates on the scheme and learn about the experiences they have had, and were provided with lots of information about joining. I have no doubts at all about wanting to join LR.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were some social events set up in the London office but not as many as at the Southampton one. I did not do any of them while I was there.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is expensive to live in regardless of what company you join. LR takes this into account by providing an additional allowance to those based there.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife was good but expensive sometimes.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were no activities as such organised apart from some team-building ones and socialising at the beginning and middle of the placement.
