The Role
I really enjoyed my time working at Lloyd's Register. I was made to feel welcome from day one and having a buddy, as well as other interns, really helped in making it an enjoyable experience.
I felt, from very early on, that I was part of the team and that the work I produced was respectable. By always offering to help and chatting to them I felt, by the end, that I was part of the team.
There were regular (bi-weekly) check up calls with HR which were useful to iron out any queries I may have had. There was also two different reviews (a mid and end point) which allowed me to work on any issues there may have been. Throughout my day to day work I was always given feedback and if I required help I was given it.
Initially for the first week I was finding my feet and learning about LR and what would be expected of me. However, after then I always felt like I had something to do and never was bored or felt that I had too much on my plate.
I was given various tasks to do independently which allowed me to learn about what was required. Overall, I was given a fair amount of responsibility but always felt that if I required help that I would get it.
By being with the project management department I learnt a lot about projects, that I had no previous knowledge on. This, subsequently, will be very important for group work in my final year at university.
The Company
It was a really good atmosphere. I was made to feel welcome from the beginning and everyone always spoke and had time for me no matter how busy they were.
I felt that it was very well organised and that from the beginning I knew exactly what was expected of me when and what I would be doing. We were given booklets on our first day which outlined everything out for us. The only negative I had was that when we were travelling to London, I didn't know until a few days before when we'd be leaving, however, I do understand that this can be the nature of business.
Outwith the regular help and advice from colleagues, I didn't receive any extra training/development.

National Travel
Very, I really enjoyed what I saw and hope that a graduate job would be on the cards.
The Culture
By being in different cities in the UK it was difficult to socialise regualry, However, with regular meetings and emails it was still possible to get to know them well and it made it easier every time we did meet up.
N/A as I lived at home throughout my internship. In general Aberdeen is expensive.
Aberdeen is reasonable for a night out, however, there isn't much to choose from and it is expensive.
Yes, I got involved with the Touch Rugby team which was a really good way to meet other colleagues from LR and get to know people out with the work environment.
