The Role
The work I was assigned was beneficial to LR so I got some enjoyment out of the fact that I knew I was actively involved in real projects. It is an extremely freidnly work environment and people are always willing to help. The pressure isn't too much but there is always a little pressure as deadlines need to be met.
All colleagues were extremely friendly and helpful.
Guidance was always available but management were careful not to 'spoon feed' me and to make me think about the work I was doing.
As I was working within the project management team I rarely had no work to do. As the internship progressed I became involved in more projects so there was always work to be done. To go along with the day to day job I also had an individual project and a group project with other interns.
As previously stated I wasn't 'spoon fed' and I was given full responsibilty to carry out the work I was assigned. This meant contacting relevant people inside and outside the company and presenting my work to both internal and external meetings.
I learnt a lot about LR and the industry. Working within the project management team also gave me an insight into a less technical side of engineering that I haven't been given at University. That said, I was still given technical issues to solve which definitely kept me busy! Presenting to clients who are across the world was beneficial as was presenting my projects to management at the end of my internship.
The Company
Friendly and Vibrant.
We were given a schedule at the beginning of the placement which was stuck to. We were also kept up to date with proceedings throughout the internship.
We had weekly project management training sessions and also took part in a 'Goal Setting Safety Offshore Legislation Course' other colleagues had to attend.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Working from home
Taking part in the internship definitely enhances your job prospects with the company should you wish to apply for a graudate job.
The Culture
All the interns in my office got on well. Half way through the internship the whole group of interns get together to present the work they have done so far. This is also a good time to socialise with interns from other offices.
I was based in London so lived at home. Socialising is expensive.
It's London.
Weekly football games are organised by graduates and they try to get the interns involved. There is also a sailing club but we weren't made aware of any trips with them.
