The Role
I really enjoyed my placement at Lloyd's Register. I spent 8 weeks working in the Rule Development and Projects section of the company.
I was treated like a member of the company. The staff were always willing to help and give guidance where necessary. We asked some of the employees to give us short presentations on their role in the company and all were happy to do so. This gave us the chance to see different parts of the company and how it all fits together.
Guidance was always their when needed. Staff and managers were very willing to go out of their way to help us with our projects. The HR frequently checked up on us to see if everything was going smoothly.
Always had projects and tasks to work on. Never too busy or too bored with nothing to do. A great balance of types of project too. For example I worked on research projects and project management projects giving me well rounded work packages.
I was given responsibility for a research project to develop rules for the companies new standards. I also worked in a team of 8 interns to develop a new internal project for the company which has now been taken over by Lloyd's Registee employees to be rolled out globally.
My presentation and soft skills increased dramatically. I grew in confidence working inside a big company and can use these skills in university and my future career
The Company
Great office atmosphere. Friendly staff. Great social balance after company hours.
Very well organised internship. Work was planned for us to keep us busy and social nights were well organised.
The staff invested time in us and made sure all projects developed skills whether it be technical or soft skills such as presentation skills.
