The Role
A wide variety of tasks and roles in some intersting/ challenging areas of the business mesnt I was able to develop skills and knowledge applicable to my final year study and a future career in engineering.
Everyone was very friendly and supportive - offering advice, feedback and encouragement
Three very sturctured placements with a review at the end of each to dicuss progress.
The work load varies from the day to day task set by your manager to additional tasks from other areas of the business for those who are willing to ask.
As an undergraduate engineer obviously the responsibility was limited; however, you are encourgaed to take ownership for your own tasks. There was also a chance to work on an engineering project as part of a team of students to solve a problem set by one of the business units - giving you the completely responsibility for sucess or failure.
Skills developed during the 12 months are likely to be usefull not just in my final year but in a future career within engineering. There is also an option to turn your work into a final year dissertation project.
The Company
Very friendly/ supportive - good community spirit.
I completed three well organised placements plus an additional engineering project as part of an undergraduate team. All went smoothly and the results were always positive.
A very good two week induction at the start of the 12 months followed by job specific training throughout if required/ asked for by the student.
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Healthcare from home
I am hoping that through the contacts made during my 12 months I will be able to secure a graduate position.
The Culture
Cost of living was very reasonable.
Locally the nightlife is not particularly good. However, Birmingham, Manchester, Derby and Nottingham are only a short train ride.
Yes; football league, volunteering and company social event
