    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A wide variety of tasks and roles in some intersting/ challenging areas of the business mesnt I was able to develop skills and knowledge applicable to my final year study and a future career in engineering.

  • Everyone was very friendly and supportive - offering advice, feedback and encouragement

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Three very sturctured placements with a review at the end of each to dicuss progress.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The work load varies from the day to day task set by your manager to additional tasks from other areas of the business for those who are willing to ask.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As an undergraduate engineer obviously the responsibility was limited; however, you are encourgaed to take ownership for your own tasks. There was also a chance to work on an engineering project as part of a team of students to solve a problem set by one of the business units - giving you the completely responsibility for sucess or failure.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Skills developed during the 12 months are likely to be usefull not just in my final year but in a future career within engineering. There is also an option to turn your work into a final year dissertation project.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly/ supportive - good community spirit.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I completed three well organised placements plus an additional engineering project as part of an undergraduate team. All went smoothly and the results were always positive.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A very good two week induction at the start of the 12 months followed by job specific training throughout if required/ asked for by the student.

  • I am hoping that through the contacts made during my 12 months I will be able to secure a graduate position.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of living was very reasonable.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Locally the nightlife is not particularly good. However, Birmingham, Manchester, Derby and Nottingham are only a short train ride.

  • Yes; football league, volunteering and company social event
