    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Endless challenges and opportunities for learning! The placement was split into 3 mini placements acorss 3 different divisions/departments meaning you could explore different areas of teh engineering industry.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All colleagues were extremely helpful- mentors were provided with each placement and the entire team are friendly and easy to approach if you have any issues. You will be treated as a 'proper engineer' and not ignored or forgotten because you are a placement student. But your academic limitations and lack of experience is also understood

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support was always provided. The training/HR team conduct regular reviews to ensure you have settled well into each placement

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Varies depending on project work, business unit and department. Voluntary STEM opportunities are also readily avaiable to keep yo busy.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Responsibility was given from the start! Support was always available if needed.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Completed and receieved my EngTech IMechE accreditation. Completed several training courses during my induction and throughout the placement. Support was also provided for organising university projects (dissertation/final year project)

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Friendly Welcoming Upbeat Fairly informal but professional

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Extremely well organised scheme- training/HR did a very good job or arranging placements in areas of interest and adjusted if the need arose. Placement reviews were conducted at the end of each placement to enable opportunties to receive feedback. STEM work was also very well arranged as well as IMechE related work and innovation projects.

  • Very close group

  • Accommodation was available for the duration of the placement. relatively cheap. Low cost of living.
