The Role
3 placements throughout the year; students have no say in where they go and its fair to say that some placements are significantly better than others; therefore the quality of undergraduate placements is down to 'luck of the draw'.
Met some fantastic people who were not only friendly and enjoyable to work with but also incredibly helpful; both during my placement period and since I've returned to uni aiding with my honours research project. I remain in contant with several former colleagues.
Placement review with HR department at the end of each placement.
Would have liked more during certain placements; however this was purely down to timing and the current projects at each business unit.
The industrial placement was an invaluble experiance in developing and applying skills gained at university to real world applications. I personally found my presentation skills developed most as well as technical knowledge and practical skills
The Company
Personally not keen on spending large amounts of time in office environment, luckily placements in development department allowed for more on-site testing and XP workshop based activities
Again some business units are more organised in terms of settup for placement students; for example desk space spare computers ect. Others are not.
2 weeks induction and a very basic CAD course; a lot more could have been provided, furthermore placement year is an ideal time to add value to undergraduate engineers and provide encouragment to return as graduates
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Above 25 days holiday
2 potential employment opportunities gained on the back of industrial placements
The Culture
Wetherspoons round the corner!
Uttoxeter has on Nightclub which is excellent if your interests include listening to dreadful music and being charged an extornionate amount for fizzy disco piss; however Derby and Stafford are nearby which are both much better nights out
