    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • JCB provided me with a brilliant rounded placement compared to a lot of my friends working for other companies. It enabled em to experience many different areas of engineering as well as providing me with a great opportunity to experience the commercial aspect of the business.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I became brilliant friends with some of my colleagues and still keep in contact on a regular basis. I also got opportunities to do real projects where my work was valued and opinion was asked for.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • All the staff were utterly fantastic. The placement students being about is something the company is very used to so staff are very accommodating and always very helpful. There is also a brilliant company support structure from both HR and you are assigned a company mentor who is very approachable for any help or issues.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Relaxed atmosphere but always plenty to do!

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Really depended on the team, the majority of the time I was dealt with as if I was any other engineer (with some additional support) which meant a lot of responsibility.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • NX CAD training has been invaluable and presentation skills has boosted my confidence and my ability a lot.

  • It was very well laid out, I always knew what was coming next for me in terms of where I was moving to within the company.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Benefit with the company is they provide accommodation for the students at a subsidised rate and we all loved together/down the same street which meant we saw each other often and it was close to the pub!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very cheap

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Small town, but its close to Derby and Stafford and there are plenty of pubs!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I wouldn't say opportunities work provided but there is plenty in the area, JCB is on the doorstep of the peaks so there is plenty to do.
