The Role
I thought the jobs I was subjected to was very mundane and not interesting
The colleagues are nice. Except there are a few engineers in the refinery who are very picky, making it especially difficult.
I did not receive any support what so ever. Although my manager was a nice bloke, he was too busy in his tasks to devote any time to the interns
I am free in the office for about 90% of the time
The job here offers me little to no responsibility. This can be put down to the fact that Singapore is culturally different to the UK.
Although I have learnt skills like communication, and I was exposed to subject matter through operating manuals, interns were not allowed to get involved in any meetings. This makes it rather difficult to gain many skills
The Company
The office atmosphere was very serious, as most of the people here are very serious about their work and work long hours.
Not at all well organised. Right from the 1st day when I had a problem with the ministry here due to my work permit application being rejected, the placement set up was not too well organised. I was told I would be doinng a lot of things, which never really happened. So its disappointing
No, I was not invested on by the company in any way
Subsidised Canteen
Healthcare from home
I like the organisation, although I would not want to be involved in a refinery set up, and I would prefer to work in UK or USA, not in Singapore,
The Culture
The other placement students were ok. They were generally quite helpful, however they were involved in their work most of the time
Singapore has gotten expensive lately. Especially with what I am paid and having to pay overheads, there is not much money for socialising
Never went out
Although, the company organises events once in a while, there are not many activities to do in Singapore
