    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thought the jobs I was subjected to was very mundane and not interesting

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The colleagues are nice. Except there are a few engineers in the refinery who are very picky, making it especially difficult.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I did not receive any support what so ever. Although my manager was a nice bloke, he was too busy in his tasks to devote any time to the interns

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I am free in the office for about 90% of the time

    1/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The job here offers me little to no responsibility. This can be put down to the fact that Singapore is culturally different to the UK.

    1/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although I have learnt skills like communication, and I was exposed to subject matter through operating manuals, interns were not allowed to get involved in any meetings. This makes it rather difficult to gain many skills

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office atmosphere was very serious, as most of the people here are very serious about their work and work long hours.

    1/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Not at all well organised. Right from the 1st day when I had a problem with the ministry here due to my work permit application being rejected, the placement set up was not too well organised. I was told I would be doinng a lot of things, which never really happened. So its disappointing

    1/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • No, I was not invested on by the company in any way

    1/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Healthcare from home

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I like the organisation, although I would not want to be involved in a refinery set up, and I would prefer to work in UK or USA, not in Singapore,

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The other placement students were ok. They were generally quite helpful, however they were involved in their work most of the time

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Singapore has gotten expensive lately. Especially with what I am paid and having to pay overheads, there is not much money for socialising

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Never went out

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Although, the company organises events once in a while, there are not many activities to do in Singapore

    3/5
