About You
The work experience was only one week long but i had a fantastic time with ExxonMobil and would have loved it if they had let me do some extra time there.
The site i was working on was incredibly large so it was virtually impossible to know everyone. From the immediate group of people who worked around me though i felt valued.
The people i was assigned with knew in advance of my presence so they were able to prepare jobs that were friendly to my level of expertise.
I was required to address a presentation at the end of my week to all the staff that i worked with. I spent a lot of time on this and speaking to the staff to help me. I believe that my presentational skills benefited greatly from this.
The Company
My godmother organised the insight since she worked at the site. She assigned me with a different group of staff everyday which meant i was able to see a different part of the refinery every day.
An industrial atmosphere with extra care taken regarding safety.
Before i was allowed on site i had to watch a safety video followed by an assessment. Before i entered each area i was also require to be introduced to the safety hazards.
Due to my age and academic level it was very hard at the time to understand what it would have been like to work there full time but i got a good feel for the general atmosphere in the industry.
The company prided itself on its employee safety more than anything else and this was very evident during my whole time on site.
Once again since i did this at a young age before my degree it was hard for it to dictate my future career but it has been something ive looked at ever since and has drawn me towards the area.
Everything Else
Neither
I was too young for employees to be considering me for networking opportunities.
This more an experience for me to gain an understanding of what it was like, i wasnt given the opportunity to try and get a job.
The site was about an hour from southampton which as a normal town/city meant there was plenty to do if you were able to get transport.
Definitely but i would say dont go too young because you limit yourself and may end up wanting to go again.
