The Role
Job was at times very very good and rewarding but there were times being a placement student you were overlooked and lacked responsbility and opportunity to prove yourself
I got on extremely well with the entire team to the point I would call them friends. However sometimes I felt that I was a burden and my contribution was overlooked.
I know they were always happy to help but availiability was an issue at times so I struggled at times
There were times I was rushed off my feet and had loads to do. I felt I had accomplised something at the end of each day and had made a decent contirbution to the company.
The longer I was there the more responsiblity I got. By the end I was given most of the responsibility for a $ 6 million a year project. However there were tight constraints and constant checks on my work which made progress slow.
I think placement has been the best thing I have ever done for my career and personal life. I now am even more motivated, more confident and more capable with everything in my life.
The Company
The atmosphere was great. Work got done, people were serious when they needed to be, but at the same time the people I worked with made the day pass easier with making light of situations and chats during breaks
Extremely well. We had all the benefits anyone could ask for, sent on some training courses and everything was done when it said it would.
I think they gave as much as you could expect on a one year placement, they definately give more than most companies, and they show how well you could be treated if you are new graduate.
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
For the first 2 years of being in the company is unbeatbable in any company/industry. However after the progress is slower and employemnt prospects arent as good as some industries e.g. banking or upstream industry.
The Culture
There were plenty of placement students and new graduates so there were plenty of young people to get to know. There were outings every weekend, however only a couple of people were great friends, the rest I wouldnt ever socialise with.
Living isnt the cheapest nor the most expensive and salary covers it ok. However social scene is poor but there are other towns/cities that can offer good nights out e.g. bournemouth or london
Poor. Southampton is not good for nightlife.
There was a gym and circuits which I got invloved with and enjoyed. There was only football and golf offered in the company. There are other sports in the area but inly being there for the year I did not bother investigating.
