I loved the marketing placement with Eaton so much so that I stayed on an additional 2 months to complete some of my major projects within the business and to gain even more marketing experience before I started back at University in September. I've never had a single day the same as another and I've been able to get involved in countless projects and really broaden my marketing knowledge while getting to know a lovely group of people.
The internship this year has been an exciting year with plenty of oppourtunties that came my way throughout the year. I have enjoyed each day coming into the working environment as everyday has been a challenge whether this was from customers from around the globe or sometimes, internally asking people for favours. The challenge was something I really liked though as it has given me great experience and a taste of what real work is like.
Overall I really enjoyed the work placement at Eaton. At the beginning I was questioning the relevance to my course but as time went on I began to understand the links more and saw the bigger picture. In summary, I would say I am happy with how the internship went.
During my placement I had the opportunity to get invovled in a wide variety of projects.: Everything from a factory move to a rebranding project. These were all challenging in their own way and allowed me to develop a proffessional skill set that I can use going forward in my career. There is also a well structured training program for all interns which gives the chance to meet others in the company & travel between sites. The trianing courses included Excel training, planning & prioritsation, communication & presentation skills.
I found the whole 12 month experience to be thoroughly enjoyable. All aspects of the placement, from the role itself to the social side of working at Eaton, were a great experience for me. I soon began to realise that if you really apply yourself and endear yourself to the people you're working with, there's no reason why you can't have fun at work.
My placement was one of the best experiences that I have taken part in to date. Moving out of my comfort zone in a supportive and friendly environment, developing my knowledge of Marketing, Business as well as building on my confidence and communication within the team.
It was a great year in terms of experience; some of the tasks were a bit repetitive but served a valid purpose within the business. I was working on real-life projects with the vice presidents of the company and directly reporting into them on a daily basis.
The work on your placement year with Eaton can be varied, and challenging, but I have found it really enjoyable all the way through. It is real, industrial work, with a purpose, and this is why it so useful. You will actually have a real impact on the business you are working within if you apply yourself properly to the work given to you.
This placement year has been everything I wanted it to be when I set out to find a role in operations. So much of what I have done I can relate directly to my operations module and the real world experience will definately serve me well in my final year. I enjoyed the responsibility I was given right from day one, and appriciated the fact I was treated like any other employee with rather than 'an intern'.
My internship role was incredibly varied, offering me insight into the whole scale of operations of the business, as such there were aspects of the job that i enjoyed and some aspects that i didn't enjoy as much but all aspects were required by the business. The opportunity for enjoyable project work far outbalanced any of the non-enjoyable aspects of my daily role.
From the start I was made to feel comfortable by both the other interns and the Hr staff and from then on every moment was enjoyable. The tasks I undertook were challenging but I felt I had the right training and I tackled them well. The support given by the HR team was tremendously valuable offering feedback and the opportunity to review and assess my performance as the year went on. My manager is also very supportive whilst giving me the best training I could have whilst not 'holding my hand' through the various tasks and projects.
A number of different elements have influenced this overall score but on reflection I seldom disliked the prospect of the work or responsibilities I was given on a day to day basis enough to seriously hinder my enjoyment of the year.
