    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a new experience and time went quickly, I have had other internships in the past but this has been the best experience by far.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Since we are working in smaller teams using agile therefore it is hard to be appriciated by other members in the company. But within my team, almost everyone appriciated each other's work.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There weren't strict guidance, which I appriciate a lot of the time. But after seeing a few new people joining the team, I kind wished I had a bit more support at the start. Pair programming with an existing developer would have been very beneficial.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • We had a strict deadline, therefore we had to take in a lot of stories and there were few days where we had nothing to do. There are always things which needs doing. e.g. bug fixing and helping out others.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The team I was working with was a small team and given that we had a lot to do, each individual had quite a lot of say in what we are doing.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I started the placement knowing very little about web development profession, and I left with a very good idea what the job involves and learned a lot on the way. I had the oppotunity to learn about V1 and V2, so I knew about the different work style and focus.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As mentioned in previous question, we had a lot to get done. So most of the time everyone were busy with their own work, but every so often we would start a short conversation which gets most members engaged to maintain a fun work atmosphere.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was given a lot of trust to do my job properly, which I valued greately. So I was fortunate enough to feel like I was working instead of "interning". However this doesn't mean the support/structure was not there, there were always someone I could speak to if I had issues.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were oppotunity to learn a lot about the company and work closely with other teams. When I encountered issues during work, a lot of the times it was a oppotunity to learn something new. I had time to pick up skills required for V1 and also V2. So I would say I had a lot time to develop my skills but training was limited.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Edcity is a good size company with fun people, most importantly of all it has a very friendly atmosphere. I think people would like to work for a company like it.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • When there is a special occasion, people would bring food in to celebrate or go to pub after work.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I think living cost is about average, but socialising is on the expensive side. Drinks in pubs are quite expensive compared to my home town and areas near my University.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was no nightlife for me, was living too far away from friends. Drinks with colleagues can be difficult as well, because of where I lived.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a lot of oppotunities to take part in charity events.

    3/5
