The Role
This was my first experience of working in industry and I settled in really fast and enjoyed working life. The placement scheme gave me very varied work which ranged from programming, management training, a group project with our year in industry students, representing the company at local shools etc.
I was not treated like an inexperienced intern, but instead like any other employee and this made me feel very valued.
I had continuous support from my placement manager, line manager and I was also provided with a placement mentor who was a director at the company. This provided me with a network of people to receive guidance and support from.
My department constantly provided me with work which was on the same level as the rest of my more experienced colleagues. Besides this, I also had other group and individual tasks to complete which were set by my placement manager.
As the placement progressed, the responsibility that was given to me increased. About half way through the placement I was being given as much responsibility as others in the department who had worked at the company for several years.
The skills I have learnt on my placement will undoubtedly assist my third year at University.
The Company
A laid-back yet hardworking atmosphere was apparent in the office.
The placement scheme aims to develop not just technical skills, but also the important 'soft-skills' and gives a variation of work.
The company has invested time and money into my personal development, providing my with free training courses etc.
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
The company has a great atmosphere and is ever-growing and expanding.
The Culture
The other placement students were friendly and I became good friends with them and many other colleagues.
I never struggled for money but it also wasn't the cheapest of areas to live.
Nightlife was varied and was not rough.
There were various work-organised activities such as 7-aside football and mountain climbing.
