The Role
Not what I expected but there were a few perks to working here rather than a traditional office.
Placement students are given slightly more recognition than other staff even though you are all really doing the same job.
Management and the team were always there to help as your performance also contributes towards their monthly target.
As a placment you have one role really and you will be on the phone all day but if you hit your target early you will go home depending on what the incentive is for your team.
I was responsible for myself and hitting my target in contribution towards the team target.
This placement was a real eye opener to see what businesses really wanted from graduates and employees in general. it was a shick to find out that most of the theory you learn in university is just a basis to build upon alot of further training you will receive in any organisation you join.
The Company
This deferred heavily from day to day and depends which team you are on. I was lucky enough to have a good team but when targets were not being hit, it can really put a downer on things even if you are doing everything you've been trained to do.
Astute has obviously had placements before and they provide alot of structured training for all employees in the job but i personally did not feel the job role was varied enough for any student who is used to exploring several subjects. astute is very target orientated and if you are nto hitting your target you have no business doing anything else. If you do hit your target you are rewarded financially and praised by management. it really depends whether you are genuinely good at the job and can actually be on the phone from 9 - 5.
I cannot fault Astute ont the amount of time invested in training and developing their employees skills. there is always a training module to take which is always structured and delivered by a manager who specialises in the field.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
I am definitely not suited to the role but I thank Astute for the opportunity.
The Culture
I met the other placmeents in Astute just by socialising and we organised some good nights out and the christmas party was definitely one I will remember for a while.
Bournemouth was definitely more expensive than I had expected but definitely livable.
There is always something going on every night in town and all in walking distance from Astute offices. Bournemouth is very student friendly although on weekends the town is run by hen parties and stag do's.
There are always emails sent from management about what people can get involved in and there is quite a bit to do in Bournemouth as well besides the nightlife.
