    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Generally assisting the team with their day-to-day tasks, joining product calls with the global team and engaging in various other meetings, working on longer term projects to provide in-depth insights on a specific topic when all urgent tasks have been completed, responding to queries over email from the SBD team in addition to collaborating companies.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I've developed my presentation skills tremendously due to the amount of experience I received when presenting findings to my team as well as the global team. I've also developed my Microsoft Application skills due to the training I received and their frequent use during my time at SBD. I also learnt to take on more responsibility as I was trusted with tasks that had real implications on the business.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given large amounts of responsibility during my placement. This is shown by being trusted with preparing long term projects and presenting these findings to the global team of over 200 people, with the results having real business implications. I was also involved in presenting to regional teams on a monthly basis, communicating their performance and the implications of the data presented, again, showing how my actions had real affects in company actions.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received high amounts of guidance during my placement. When first starting off the previous intern had a one month hand-over period where I was taught many of the skills and tasks I would be carrying out during my time at SBD. After that I was given regular training in addition to my team helping with any further questions I had throughout my placement.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • With the placement being at home due to COVID it was hard to gauge what the atmosphere was like between co-workers in the office. However, the company culture was very positive with company wide days off offered as a 'days of thanks' , appreciating employees hard work. Also, the atmosphere in team meetings was positive and friendly, with time spent talking about our personal lives before delving into work related topics.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Stanley Black & Decker
  • Be prepared to take on roles that require lots of responsibility, with integrity and self-motivation needed to complete longer term projects and work towards deadlines. Also, be open minded and flexible due to the wide array of tasks that you complete which require adaptability and open mindedness. Being organized is also crucial as when you have incomplete tasks it can be easy to forget about those that are un-finished when starting something new.
