The Role
I really enjoyed my placement as it allowed me to try 3 different roles: sales, technical support and Servicing/calibration. I enjoyed getting hands on experience with repairing units in the service centre.
I felt valued by my colleagues as I got to do meaningful tasks such as creating and demonstrating to customers, helping customers with their queries and repairing their instruments.
My manager gave guidance and support whenever required, particularly when asking for help.
I was kept busy throughout the year. If you completed one task, you can volunteer for more work. I was particularly busy in technical support as their are a lot of questions that come in about our products and their operation.
As interns, you are given a lot of responsibility. Throughout the year, I talked to a lot of customers (big and small companies) directly and am expected to follow up with them by myself (and not by my manager).
With to months training and a large amount of skills developed during my placement, I will be using these skills during my degree and the future. I have learned how to better design tests and know which instruments to use for a variety of testing which will be important for future projects. Furthermore, I will be learning amount measurement in my final year, so having experience with Keysight will help me go further in those courses.
The Company
Very good, it is an open plan office. Everyone is very friendly and happy to help with any questions you have.
The placement was well organised, however, there was some disruption during the year which meant that the time spent in the roles varied from person to person.
The company invested in a lot of training. The first two months of the placement was an intense training course with one week in France to get practical training on the instruments. The training covered a lot of fundamental electronics which I found valuable. Furthermore, there is extra training available throughout the year that you can do.

There are a lot of different roles that you can go into with Keysight meaning that there most likely is a role that best suits you.
The Culture
Yes, I got on well with the other interns.
Reading and the surrounding area is quite expensive, but you can live with students from the University of Reading which works out to be approx £400 a month for accommodation.
There is none in Winnersh Triangle as it is a business park, but 10 minutes on the train to Reading, there are a large number of clubs and pubs.
Yes there are several activities outside of work to get involved in. This includes Sports such as Tour de Keysight (cycling), dinners etc.
