The Role
The year was quite enjoyable considering it was just a placement. The rotation every couple of months was what made it non repetitive and enjoyable. The office in general was very friendly and helpful. I guess what makes it only an 8 is that I am struggling to think of many highlights throughout the year.
This really depends on yourself and which team you are a part of. If you do a good job in your technical sales project, I am sure you will feel valued by others. In Technical Support you fully feel like part of the team, so it makes up for the rest of the year regardless of your success. A lot of the time you spend time with your fellow interns, and during our year, we were really close.
The manager makes sure you are on track throughout the year but does not tend to micro-manage. I have had a chance to spend time with people from a diverse spectrum of teams and almost everyone was really supportive and help with our questions. If you have to work with busy people that sometimes brings a challenge in terms of getting support.
I can't really complain in terms of the workload. This depends on the role which you are in throughout the year, but that made it even better. I had to work a little bit of overtime maybe twice a year for our project, but when had a couple of months in a quite chilled team. In overall, I'd say we had perfect balance.
I could've had more responsibilities, but the lack of it sometimes was my own fault. They do give you the ability to do your own projects and join various activities if you wish to and you still do what you have to do. I guess how much responsibility you get is quite okay for a placement.
This placement is really more for electronic engineers, which is not what I am studying so not sure about assisting my degree. But I think it will definitely help me after my studies, when I go into a company and I already know how companies are ran and won't feel completely lost just coming from a university.
The Company
It is not necessarily dull in the office, but sometimes the atmosphere lacks some excitement. Especially because it is in a quite remote business park. They do have some after-work activities from time to time which have been fun! I believe they have more of these organised for the future, so it should be better.
No complaints, you rotate every 2-3 months between the roles, and they are quite flexible.
2 months training in the beginning and you have the ability to train on anything you are interested in if you want to.

The Culture
We had a very good chemistry.
It is not very cheap in Reading. You can live in other surrounding areas though.
Non-existent in the Winnersh Triangle. However, if you live in Reading, there are a number of clubs, pubs and other places to spend the payday's evening at. Reading is sometimes considered a student's town and there are quite a lot of students around. We mostly used to go out with other interns.
This depends on yourself. Reading has quite a lot of sports clubs, organisations and other after-work places to spend time in. For me, I started to do that a bit too late, but I would've had a really good time if I would've started joining these activities at the start of the year.
