    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The people, the type of roles and the projects that I did made the placement very enjoyable. The projects are interesting and they apply to the real state of the electronics industry, the people are very friendly and welcoming and the roles also have a good level of responsibility. In addition to that, the social activities within the team you work with is very good.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The responsibilities you have during the different job roles is very significant, some of the work is the type of job any full graduate would do, for that reason the inputs you have to the company are very well valued by the people in the office. In addition to that everyone is very supportive when helping the interns in the case they need any type of help.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The manager gives very good advice, I believe that if you have the will to grow and improve your skills, you will always be given the knowledge, tools or resources necessary to do that. Very understanding with the fact that placement students may lack the knowledge and experience provided by working in industry, but also expects good effort and results, which is good as it allows you to push yourself and make the most out of the placement year.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There is always work to do, in the case that the workload is low, there are also numerous trainings that can be done. There are so many products and types of technology that university student will most probably not have knowledge of. So there is always something to do, being proactive is certainly something that helps to get involved in important projects that allow you to experience different areas within the company.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • All the projects I was involved in, were always reviewed by important people within the company, they really had a contribution on the planning of strategies for the company's future actions. You also tend to directly interact with customers to discuss some of the more technical concepts behind Keysight products, which is a good level of responsibility (things like pre-sales cases).

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Keysight has not only taught me technical aspects of the industry but has also taught me a lot at a personal level, it has really made a change on my plans for the future and the areas where I want to get involved (sales and technical marketing), the importance of complementing technical knowledge with interpersonal skills is very important to develop business opportunities.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very good, everyone is very friendly and welcoming, the canteen is a very sociable area where people gather and have a good chat.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There is a lot of planning before the new interns even start. A lot of the projects you get involved with depend on the current need of the company and the interests of the students therefore everything can't be decided beforehand, but there is always good quality work ready to be done.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I believe there was good investment from the company, some of my placement year involved international travel for a week, with all expenses paid. In addition to that, there are numerous experts in the office who are always willing to do training sessions (if everything is et up and organized in advanced). There are also seminars happening around London or other locations, this seminars are some times valuable for networking opportunities depending on the project the student is involved with.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes everyone is very social in the office and willing to have a good chat, there is a wide range of ages around the office which is good, as you have people your age who may understand you better and other ages of whom you can learn a lot from.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading is not cheap in terms of accommodation and buses, however the price for taking the train is reasonable, things like pubs/bars and gyms are relatively cheap,

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Reading is a student town due to reading university, there are numerous pubs, bars and clubs around the area and a lot of people around them. So it is very active when talking about the night life.
