    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I worked on an Internet networking project with a really good team of professionals, who were ready to share their experience and provide support where needed. I believe it was one of the best work and summer experiences I have had and it would help me in my future development as a professional in my career choice.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As I said in my previous answer why I enjoyed my internship placement was because I enjoyed working with my colleagues extremely much. All my colleagues were very friendly and ready to space some time for a bit of a talk no matter if it was on project or advice related subject.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • For any part of the project that I was supposed to be working on, I was introduced to my responsibilities and accordingly to the tools that I could possibly use to achieve the long term goal. Anytime I had a question I could email my coworkers and ask for ideas and/or support.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Relatively busy. At the beginning when I had to learn new technology it was relatively more time-consuming. The more I advanced in the project the better I knew the system and how to coordinate and communicate with colleagues, which made the tasks a bit easier and I could concentrate on other aspects and details of the project.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given reasonably much responsibility. There were challenging tasks but I was never asked to do things that I couldn't. When the project was more sophisticated I was provided with support along the way whenever I have formulated my question precisely. I got lucky that I was in a very relaxed office atmosphere with easy going colleagues.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe this is was incomparable with any experiences I have had so far and will assist me in my career and study choices. I got experience while I was learning about the project itself, however I also had the opportunity to speak and know a bit more about my colleague’s field of work, which gave a sense of career direction.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere is the office was relaxed, however, everybody was working hard on their projects. it made my impression that there was no tracking time and everybody could speak up and give a precise estimate of how much time it might take them to finish a particular task. Overall the office atmosphere was smart and relaxed.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organization in the office was to a high standard, however, it still felt relaxed. Every morning we had stand ups where we say what we have completed over the last day if there were any difficulties (which is very beneficial, because colleagues can share experiences and solve problems on the go) and any plans for the current day.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • At the beginning of my internship there was a learning curve of several weeks. I had to take several tutorials before I felt comfortable with the project information and used technologies. The company generously gave me time to prepare and adjust. In terms of personal training, I had assigned a mentor who always helped me.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am not completely sure regarding this topic, however, if they need any addition to the team, I am sure their interns would be the first instance to be reviewed as an opportunity. On the other hand, there are already very experienced and proficient employees in the company that have been working there for more than 20 years.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All of the interns had lunch in the company's canteen and spend a good time there sharing and relaxing. Every last Thursday the company organised a night out, where we also had really good time and get to know each other better. It was also a good way to relax from work with colleagues.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • There was no cost, excluding the time.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I live in Edinburgh and was travelling to work every day.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, from within work there were events (outside the work area) organised that employees could join if they wish.
