    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found working here very nice. The staff we lovely and i was treated well in all work i did. The money was also good as i earned 7.50 and hour. We also had short breaks which helped us relax however this may have been exclusive to my store. My manager was also very lovely.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were very lovely and welcoming to me. We would always drink tea and chat on our lunchbreaks and if they i needed any help they would come and help me as soon as they could. They also made sure everything was ok with me if i seemed down or upset.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given support quite a bit by my managers however sometimes they were busy doing other things so could not help me or were helping other members of staff which is understandable. The support they gave however was very helpful and insightful and helped me improve my work ethic.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Were were quite busy sometimes especially on the weekends and after school times as is understandable but in the daytime there were not very many people around doing shopping. Usually only elderly or older people doing there daily shopping. On the evening however as it got darker more people would come out and late at night it would be quite again.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a bit of responsibility but not too much. for example i was alternated with another colleague to do the tills and most of the time was given the responsibility to stack shelves and change out older food from the food counter. However i was not allowed to do anything with finance or money.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills i received were very helpful as they allowed me to learn how to work in an environment when busy and not when busy. they also taught me how to work properly as a team and how to work with the public on a day to day basis which will help me in my future jobs.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was good depending on who you were with. However most of the time is was good but a bit boring as not much happened in the office except for us chatting among our selves. People were friendly to each other so that atmosphere was good just sometimes can get a bit dull if too little or certain people are in there.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall work placement was very well organised. Everyone had there roles as soon as we started and if anything were to change or someone were to fall ill we were immediately contacted and let know of the changes that had occurred. The break room was also setup nice and we were allowed some relaxation time.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was trained well with a handful of others on working certain things like the tills and self checkouts as well as how to stack the shelves and the ordering of food. They invested a good amount of time 30 minutes to an hour on training days and if we got stuck or were not sure we could always ask for help.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would like to work here again as it was very pleasant and is appealing to me in many ways. However i do think that different stores may be different in the way they handle work so i would not be sure about being in other stores however i would definitely apply to this store again.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. There was a very good social scene among placement colleagues as we were all going through the same thing so we were all a bit nervous but got along well. We also were able to help each other out if anyone needed help which made the social a lot more favorable and pleasant.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living and socialising was quite expensive as it is a well built up town. However there are good places to go if you know where to find them or make good friends with any local colleagues like i did that are a lot cheaper than the more expensive fancy bars and restaurants.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife was very good here as there was lots of buzz and lots going on in the town we were in. However the problem was that it was quite expensive so sometimes it would be hard to find somewhere to go and relax with your friends and work colleagues on the night out.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Unfortunately there were not many opportunities to get involved in outside of work as the town did not have many activities such as bowling or tennis or any sport to take part in. However there were some smaller places to go such as a park and a cross country track to go on a run with a group.
