The Role
I really enjoyed my placement; the people in my department were great and I enjoyed the commodities I was working on.
I really felt like I was part of a team and that my work and my opinion mattered.
I had a line manager specifically for my placement and the projects that I was working on who was a fantastic support. I had weekly meetings with my line manager so that I could keep on track of everything but really we would catch up most days and I felt comfortable that I could ask questions or for help if I needed it.
This varied quite a bit. I had some calmer periods at the beginning of the placement but when my projects got going I was very busy. I never felt like there was nothing to do and my other colleagues were very welcoming to let me come along to their meetings or help with their work if I wanted to fill some time.
I had 2 main projects during my placement and experienced real ownership of these. I became the main contact for the commodities I was working on, so was dealing with other problems around my projects and therefore got a real business experience and lots of responsibility.
The skills may be less applicable specifically to a degree but I developed many valuable skills, such as communication, which I will be able to take with me and apply in any job.
The Company
There was a really good atmosphere.
Before starting the placement I knew very little about what I'd be doing but once there it was all laid out very clearly and seemed really well organised.
I was given a Line manager specifically for me and there was also a scheme lead in each department. All the placements had 2 group 'check in' sessions with the HR team, who again were very willing to help out if we needed it.

Whilst working there, the grad scheme went under some big changes which means that my particular placement didn't directly lead on to a scheme. However, I think by doing the summer placement it will really increase my chances for getting on the grad scheme or joining at entry level.
The Culture
It was expensive but I was based in central London so wasn't expecting it to be cheap.
Lots of bars and pubs which were busiest just after work finished.
