    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my time on placement at Mindshare. The team I have been able to work with have been great, the work has been exciting, and there are loads of great perks, (any workplace which has a free bar once a month is going to be an enjoyable place to work at least some of the time!) The whole ethos and culture of the company is really friendly and has massive contributed to a year that has been both hugely beneficial and enjoyable

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have felt really well valued by my colleague which I think this has been reflected in the level of responsibility I have been given. I have had the opportunity to lead projects as well as work closely with senior team members. It is very much a case of you get out what you put in, the more dedication and interest you show, the more people will try to get you involved in more important work. This is definitely a placement year when you are given real responsibility and be expected to pull your weight, but for me that has been great, as by doing this it has meant that I have been able to form a really close relationship with the rest of the team I work with.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whenever necessary, support and guidance has always been available. There has never been a question I have been made to feel stupid for asking, and everyone has been more than happy to impart their wisdom upon me and keen to help me learn as much as possible and develop my skills.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Generally pretty busy! I had the amazing opportunity to work on the Marks and Spencer account for my year here, which as one of the biggest stores in the UK was obviously a pretty busy account. There were occasionally days where I would be in late, but for me that wasn't a problem, as it was only a rare occurrence, but when it did happen I didn't mind it as it just reinforced to me that I was lucky to actually be given real responsibility which made my work feel worthwhile and reminded me that I was actually an important part of the system.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As mentioned in previous questions, I was given a very good amount of responsibility. As an intern there will always be a small number of slightly more administrative tasks, however understanding how these work and the importance of these to the larger running of an account was actually something I really learned. Beyond this too I was also given a good amount of responsibility on larger projects, having the opportunity to lead and plan smaller projects which would be monitored by senior team members who were also always available for me to talk to.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I definitely feel that I am hugely better equipped now going into my final year at uni. The skills I learned will be invaluable and will allow me to save huge amounts of time on some parts of work and complete other parts to a much higher standard and with a real world grounding. Furthermore, after uni, whether it is back at Mindshare or elsewhere, I will now be confident of beginning with a strong ready made skillset that will allow me to hit the ground running.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the Mindshare offices is great. Everyone is really friendly, and although there are hundreds of people in the office, it feels a lot smaller. All the individual teams are really close and there is a great social, easy going attitude that is evident straight away. Everyone works hard but you can always here laughter in at least one corner of the office and there is definitely a work hard, play hard mentatily.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was very well set up. From my assessment centre to my last day everything has run very smoothly with clear communication every step of the way. Once in the role it has also worked very well, allowing me to progress at the fast pace that suited me, however equally I know of other interns, who needed and were able to progress at their own slightly different pace, and everyone ahs been able to develop in the best way suited to them,

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There are numerous training courses available, from basic excel, to high level industry tools, and really you are the master of your own destiny in this department. As long as you can fit it in alongside your work responsibilities, you are allowed, and encouraged to do as much training as possible to broaden your skills and expertise in as many ways as possible.

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Although there is currently nothing in writing, speaking to my team members, and the relevant people, it has been made clear that if and when I want to return after uni, I need just get in touch and there will be a place for me. I currently don't know what my plans are, however, having had such a great experience, I certainly have no reasons not to want to go back!

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yeah there was a really good social scene. In my year there were 7 other interns, and for the first couple of months we were all really close and would often eat together and go out together etc. As each of us bedded into our individual teams more, we began spending more time with them, however the friendly atmosphere within the company meant that everybody got along, and with great perks like the Summer and Christmas parties, and the monthly free bar, the social scene throughout the company was definitely one of the highlights of my year.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was paid £18,000 for my year here. With that money I was able to afford to live in London (Stratford) without any extra support. I never felt that I was missing out on anything due to financial restrictions, and led a relatively comfortable life. I think as long as you are sensible, it is completely possible to live within your means, and although going out can be expensive, one of the great perks of the job is that you often get taken out for dinner or drinks by media owners and so you don't often need to pay to go out yourself!

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Working a stones throw from SoHo meant the nightlife was great. Although as mentioned previously this was quite expensive and so didn't happen regularly, when we did want a night out, the options were endless and the public transport available in London made getting around very easy.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I didn't get involved in many opportunities outside of work, however I was aware of quite a few sports and social clubs.
