    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved working at Mindshare. It is a very exciting place to be, everyone is very young and social. My team was very welcoming and helpful when I joined. They always have many events like the huddle, Christmas party and so on. I think anyone would like working in this environment.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • When I first joined Mindshare I realised it is a huge company. I have been working in the Business planning consultancy department and I would say everyone is very friendly and helpful. I did not have much to do in the beginning but eventually the workload increased and people started to depend on me for work

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The first few weeks were occupied with loads of training sessions with various people. They trained us very well and gave us all the necessary information. Whenever I came across any issues I could easily go to my project managers and ask them my doubts. We were given a lot of support. The weekly team meetings also helped a lot.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I did not have much to do in the beginning but eventually the workload increased and people started to depend on me for work. The first few weeks were occupied with loads of training sessions with various people. They trained us very well and gave us all the necessary information. Later I was put on various projects and then the real work began. The workload depends on your projects stage.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I would say I did the work that an account executive would be able to do. We were given a lot of responsibility but there was always someone to keep a check as well. The work varied according to the project. I mostly worked in the initial stages of the project which involve a lot of data processing work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I received a lot of training for instance excel intermediate, excel advanced, tableau and all the other softwares used by the team. I think all these tools will be quite helpful in the final year of university as well as later. I have become quite proficient at outlook, evernote, excel, power point and other toold used regularly at work.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It is an open office here in Mindshare, so no cabins and boss system applies. Ofcouse we all have line managers and project managers. But in general the atmosphere is pretty friendly and fun. There are interesting events every week. Even the dress code is not formal wear which is great!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I would say there is no exact structure set up for students. You just join and jump into whatever is going on. My manager did set up a few objectives for me and asked me what I would like to do and where my interest lies. It’s pretty flexible and you can talk to your manager if you want to work in a particular area of interest.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I would not use the term invest precisely. We did have a bunch of trainings and seminars in the beginning and we still do have team trainings every other week, but it all revolves around the project work we do. Everyone attends these trainings. It was all still very helpful!

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think if you settle well with the team and they like your work you have a very good chance of getting a job after the final year is over. As in my case, being an international student does limit my chances. I do not know if Mindshare provides work visa and sponsorships.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • When we started working all the new interns had a few trainings in common. So it was easy to meet everyone spread across various teams. It was great to meet people from different universities and have someone doing the same as you. All the interns were very friendly and fun.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The office is located in central London. Obviously the cost here is extremely high for everything! But it is an exciting place, there are many fun things to do around here. Oxford circus, covent garden, Holborn, soho it is all walking distance from the office. The rent costs are very high here so it makes sense to travel every morning than to rent a place in central London I guess.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As I mentioned above, it is central London, so the nightlife is pretty great! There are many pubs and bars around here. You will also find quite many great restaurants in this area. Oxford circus, covent Garden, Holborn, soho it is all walking distance from the office. We also have free bar nights in the office once every month.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes Mindshare is a very fun place to be at. They have many sports activites, they have football, basket ball and even volley ball. They also have some volunteering activites that you can take part in. During the leap year they have events throughout London which you can attend free of cost.
