The Role
I enjoyed my time at Mindshare very much. They provided me with lots of training and made sure I had sufficient knowledge to perform well in my role. My team was amazing and all the perks we got in terms of socials were awesome. It was invaluable to be able to experience the media works first hand. I know feel like I am a lot more equipped to start my career than if I had only finished University.
My colleagues were awesome. I feel like they've become my friends and I will miss them a lot when I leave. It's nice to be able to share your personal life with your team and get to know them better on a personal level as well, as this makes it easier to communicate around work subjects later.
In terms of my training all of the team were very helpful in answering questions and teaching me the processes. There was always someone to go to if I was unsure of something.
There would be days where I was really busy and had to stay late, but most days were normal working days where I would have enough to do, but not so much that I couldn't take a break or go out on a lunch with media owners.
Once I learned all the processes, I was given just as much responsibility as an actual account executive and I was treated as one as well. It was nice not to feel a massive difference between the roles just because I'm on a placement.
The skills I developed during my time at Mindshare will help me a lot during my last year at University as I feel my whole thought process has changed. I now have a lot more wholesome picture of how things work in media and how campaigns come together from start to finish. I will also have a lot more real life examples when writing reports/essays etc. I also now have a clear idea of what I want to write about for my dissertation. During my placement I have met a lot of different people from the industry, which will help me when looking for a job later on. An a year of experience certainly helps!
The Company
The atmosphere is generally quite laid back. As long as you do your work and manage your workload alright you're allowed to go out for lunches and other social events, even during work time.
In the beginning it lacked organisation a little as I was not given sufficient information about what my role will be and what clients I will be working on prior to turning up. Everyone was also very busy during my first week and it was hard to get my head around everything without having someone to guide me at first. Once I got some training and understood the processes everything was a lot better. I felt like part of the team and was happy to get given responsibilities.
The training at Mindshare is amazing. There are courses all the time on everything. We have an online learning platform available which you can use at any time, as well as external courses. I was also able to take the IPA exam, which is a great thing to have on my CV!

There are lots of roles for all levels at Mindshare and having offices all over the world its definitely a place to come back to!
The Culture
As I was working separately from all the other placements students there was not many socials going on there. But, I wouldn't have had time for that anyway, as my own team was incredibly social. We had team lunches all the time as well as going out together every week.
As I shared a flat with my boyfriend it was not too bad. It is however London, so not the cheapest either. In terms of socialising, most of the things were paid for anyway, so nothing to worry about here.
Working near Covent Garden and Soho was amazing. So many places to go and things to see!
So many socials that you will have a hard time sorting out your social calendar!
