    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I suprprised myself by really enjoying my time at HP! The people were great to work with and you're doing a proper job that helps out the business.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Within my team, I was the "glue" that held everyone together, so I felt incredibly needed and important. My manager kept on reiterating this to me too

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone around me was always willing to give their time in order to help me and develop my skills, no matter how busy they were.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My work load increased dramatically after being at HP for 3 months which was a shock to the system, however learning as I go, things became easier and therefore quicker to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My main responsibility was to support and manage a $40m per quarter business, so I'd say there was a lot of responsibility given to me - this is a proper job, not just any old placement.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There was always the help there for me when I needed it, in order to get things completed etc. When I started I didn't have great excel skills, however these have improved massively through having a great support network always there for me

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • During the week the office would be busy, especially on a Thursday when the retail sales team were in, however Fridays could often be really quiet as lots of people choose to work from home. In general though, everyone was always very friendly around the office and always up for having a catch up with you throughout the days/weeks

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I can't really fault the set up of the placement year. I was given sufficient information prior to starting about what I needed to bring/have done before my first day, and throughout the year there has been lots organised for the interns to participate in.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I'm fairly neutral on this. The help was always there, but only if you asked, and quite often the people involved in other areas of the business are too busy to action your request straight away, and unless to consistently chase them you won't get what you want.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would very much like to come back and be a permanent member of the HP Family after Graduation, after having a taster of life within HP this year.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • After HP split into 2 companies, there was a noticeable divide between Enterprise and Inc. A few events were organised (a Christmas and Summer Ball), however the only real time to socialise with most of the other interns was during the lunch hour in work.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home, so didn't have to pay much rent at all compared to some other people. In Reading and surrounding areas, it's fairly cheap to socialise, but it depends on what you want to do.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Being based close to Reading there's loads of bars, restaurants and clubs to go to throughout the week/weekend!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • None that I found outside of work. There were charity fundraising events to take part in, but those were all organised by HP.
