    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had an amazing year at HP as my role was very diverse and I had the opportunity to work on a number of different projects and take the lead when necessary. The intern community of 26 other HP interns made it very comfortable to settle in and enjoyable.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the very beginning of the internship I felt well respected by employees and they really do treat you like a full time employee. I was responsible for helping a number of different account managers and customers which was a great experience. My team were based around Europe and the Middle East and they were all so lovely.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • You can always ask questions at HP and ask for help when needed. They provide mentors to the interns also.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My schedule definitely got busier in the second half of the internship after Christmas, once I had built a good relationship with other employees in different department across the business. My role was project based so I was constantly working on different tasks.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was a project lead for events and tasks on multiple occasions and worked 1:1 with other members of my team throughout the year. The team depended on me to help with communications.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I learnt and built on will definitely help me in my future. Communication, organisation and teamwork was required everyday and came naturally towards the end.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere had days of very buzzing but sometimes fairly quiet in the office. It was lovely being with friendly people and an intern community.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship is extremely well organised with a whole month of handover period with the current interns which means you can learn the whole company, systems and projects and ask for help in the first month. The internship also includes fundraising targets and volunteering help.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The internship offers a mentor program which many interns have utilised but sometimes it was difficult arranging meetings due to schedules. Managers and other teams are always available to help with personal development.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It isn't too clear if there is a graduate program but some interns are asked back or their contract is extended. It would be great to come back after university dependent on if there is space in the team.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • the intern community is very busy and everyone was so nice and friendly! The interns usually take charge of running their own activities and events and we all came very close throughout the year and created our own socials.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading is probably as expensive as working in London but travel is cheaper. There are some cheaper bars and clubs like all towns.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Reading has a few bars and clubs which we went to regularly. This can get slightly repetitive but there is something for everyone.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are a few different things to do outside work such as food, drink, trampolining cinema etc.
