The Role
It was a fantastic experience. I met some really great people and I enjoyed the job I was doing.
We were really close. I worked within a small team and we all asked for each others opinions on items and products. Even though I was only at the company for a very short period, I felt like an important member of the group.
Sainsbury's really take care of their placement students. I was given a lot of guidance during my internship that made me feel completely at ease.
I worked hard and socialized with my colleagues in equal measure so, for me, it was the perfect balance.
At the start of my placement, I asked my manager to give me as much responsibility as possible. I knew that I was only going to be at the company for a very short time so I made sure that the internship was a worthwhile experience.
It was a fantastic boost to my confidence to be able to implement all the knowledge I'd learned throughout my degree into my work. I felt prepared for whatever may come my way.
The Company
All my colleagues were very friendly, so the atmosphere was brilliant. People would sing loudly to the radio and perform little stand-up comedy routines to the rest of the staff. It was great.
After talking with a few of my friends who had placements at different companies, it seems like my internship was set up very well. It was paced perfectly so that it started off light at the beginning and then grew gradually more busy. Also, I controlled the volume of work that I had to do - if I felt like it was too pressured then the managers removed the burden.
As I was only at the company for a short time, I didn't really get to attend many training sessions or courses. I'm sure, however, that if I had been at the company for the full placement year then I would have enrolled on numerous training schemes.

I would love to work at Sainsbury's. After spending a month there, I can't think of anywhere better to work.
The Culture
As Sainsbury's is quite a large company, there were a lot of placement students doing internships at the same times as me. I made friends with a number of them and we regularly went out for meals and drinks.
London is notorious for being expensive. Rent is astronomical and food prices are way too high. I remember, during one night out, paying close to £20 for a standard kebab and chips - it was ridiculous.
London is not only the capital city of England, it's also the party capital of the country. It's a great night out, for sure.
I attended so many social events with my colleagues. We went for meals together a few times a week. Also, there's this amazing bar in the center of London that serves the best cocktails I have ever tasted and me and my friends went there every weekend near enough.
