I enjoyed working with Network Rail immensely. The work is really varied day to day, which meant it was always interesting. Being on the internship also meant we went around to the different areas of the business and different teams and gained an insight into their daily work; which means you can make a calculated decision about what you want to do as a career. For example we had placements in two different teams while we were there, for a month each; but also had insight mornings in Property, Financial Shared Services, and Investment etc.
I really enjoyed my time working with Network Rail. The work was interesting and every week I would have days dedicated to either trips up to other Network Rail offices such as the ones in Manchester & Rugby, or talks about the specific roles and departments within corporate services.
Was a bit slow to start with no real plan of what I was there to do but once my manager had changed I was straight into some meaningful work. Network Rail is very varied, always something different to do and opportunities to go out onto the infrastructure and visit different areas of the business.
I really enjoyed my time on placement at Network rail, the company offered me numerous opportunities to see the company as a whole and not just through work in the team I was based in. I went on many site visits all over the UK which helped me gain an understanding of the industry as well as providing plenty of opportunities to take responsibility on projects.
I really enjoyed my time at Network Rail as it is a really fast paced environment with lots of different things going on. Every day presented something new and the activities and projects I worked on were really interesting and varied.
I attend my placement tree times a week, this is a good balance alongside university lectures and work. I feel Network rail is a good company to work for as there are plenty of opportunities to become inolved in schemes and programmes to aid my personal development.
Very much enjoyed my placement experience. I had a varied portfolio of works which which I took responsibility and accountability for - obviously enhancing the learning experienced on a year in industry. It's a bit of a cliche, but I genuinelly enjoyed coming to work everyday and made some good friends along the way.
