I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Siemens, I learnt new skills, challenged and progressed in current skills. From presenting to the HR Board, carrying out Listening groups across the UK in different divisions of the business, to gaining an insight into the Annual Pay Review, and being a core project team member for a retender process. From the beginning I felt like a valued member of the Reward & Policy team and will miss working for such a great company!
I enjoyed the placement a lot. Primarily because I had a chance to apply the knowledge which I gained during my years at University. It also gave an opportunity to gain an insight into industry and see how things work in real life. This placement improved me as an engineer and also as a human being.
The internship offered a structured programme, where I was able to balance a variety of work. I was able to attend external events outside of my job, which gave me a greater understanding of the impact of my role in the wider industry which was motivating, whilst providing me opportunities to build on my professional network.
The internship has been a fantastic experience overall. I have found the experience of working in an in-house legal team on an industrial manufacturing site to be a great motivating factor. It's great to walk in to work on a morning and witness innovative machinery actually being manufactured. In-house legal departments seem to be much more collaborative, with the focus being on achieving outcomes rather than billing clients. It's also great to be able to contribute to some of the enormous engineering projects that Siemens undertake. As a member of the legal team I have worked with a wide range of people including engineers, project managers and salespersons, which has helped me develop a deep understanding of the business and its functions.
The introductory program that I experienced allowed me to meet a range of employees who would all end up supporting me over the course of the placement. The flexibility and ownership that I received during my placement made it extremely enjoyable. Overall, I feel like I have learned greatly on my placement whilst really putting theory to practice in a working environment that has given me the opportunity to take on really ownership and responsibilities.
-Very much enjoyed being respected and all the friendly members of the company -Enjoyed the office atmosphere; quite relaxed and low pressure -Very good for software based work, not so good for providing practical work -Range of work can be slightly low, however I felt I could always request slightly different work if I because bored
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement particularly at the Towcester office; it is smaller than most so you feel like part of the team to a larger extent. The work I was doing was also enjoyable as it was a mix of different types, one day working on reports another presentations another on a business trip, it was always varied. The local area is also very quaint and picturesque which I appreciated.
I absolutely loved having the opportunity to work at Mentor Graphics. It was very interesting being in a software development environment as opposed to a pure mechanical engineering one. The office had a nice atmosphere and all of the employees were very friendly. I felt highly valued and that I was doing useful work which contributed to the company.
This was an eye opener to the software industry coming from a mechanical engineering background. I enjoyed everything in the office, especially the relaxed open office work environment. The workload was ideal and very interesting. This has also helped me gain interest in software development as it has exposed me to various stages of a development cycle including designing and use experience to quality assurance.
I really enjoyed my 13 months with HR, everyone was friendly and welcoming. The experience has really helped my studies but has confirmed to myself what I would like to after graduation. The team is really friendly and easy to get along with. There is also a large Graduate, Apprentice and Intern community on site which helped to settle into work when moving to a new area.
