    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement as I was given a variety of task that are very challenging and stimulating. This meant I am constantly learning new skills and learning new stuff in order to complete the tasks given to me which made for a very pleasant experience as it meant that I am constantly developing in terms of personal and professional development. At the end of my placement, I honestly did not want to leave. It is without a doubt the best job I have ever had, in the best company there is, with the most incredible people I have met in my life as colleagues.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt extremely valued by my colleagues at Mentor Graphics. On several occasions, I was commended on a task which I has completed. This showed their gratitude and highlighted that they were actually taking the time to review and acknowledge my work. I felt all the more valued as some of the tasks I were given were of high importance and I am not just given menial tasks which needed to be done. I sincerely feel that the colleagues that I have are the best colleagues I could have asked for and we had so much fun together it felt like we are family

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I am very satisfied with the amount of guidance that were given to me. Members of staff are very helpful and are more than happy to provide further guidance if I am not clear on anything which rarely happened as most guidance were very detailed. It is also worth noting that I am even encouraged by members of staff to ask for further clarifications if I am unclear on anything.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On a daily basis, I would have a steady stream of workload with the occasional tight deadline depending on the nature of the task that was assigned to me. Workload are pretty consistent throughout the month with the weeks leading to the release generally being the busiest. I have never found myself bored with nothing to do and workload is always manageable. Working is such a capable team also meant that tasks could be reassigned to another colleague if necessary.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given loads of responsibility from the day I joined. You are treated as a normal consultant that is joining on a permanent basis, rather than as an intern that is joining for one year. Consequently Hays invest their time heavily in your individual training and development, enabling each person to manage the large amount of responsibility that they are given.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am positive that my time spent at Mentor Graphics will not only aid me in my future studies but in life as well. I feel that I have acquired so many new skills such as attention to details, programming skills, systematic way of doing things etc in addition to developing existing skills such as communication skills, teamwork skills etc. In addition, the company also invest heavily in me by signing me up for training courses such as DISC training which is a training course designed to improve work productivity, workplace communication and interpersonal relationship. I have also participated in a time management training course which is designed to help me achieve a perfect work-life balance.

  • Mentor Graphics spent a lot of time and effort developing an excellent programme for interns. These all aids in your development to ensure that you are getting the most out of your placement.
