I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement as I was given a variety of task that are very challenging and stimulating. This meant I am constantly learning new skills and learning new stuff in order to complete the tasks given to me which made for a very pleasant experience as it meant that I am constantly developing in terms of personal and professional development. At the end of my placement, I honestly did not want to leave. It is without a doubt the best job I have ever had, in the best company there is, with the most incredible people I have met in my life as colleagues.
I felt extremely valued by my colleagues at Mentor Graphics. On several occasions, I was commended on a task which I has completed. This showed their gratitude and highlighted that they were actually taking the time to review and acknowledge my work. I felt all the more valued as some of the tasks I were given were of high importance and I am not just given menial tasks which needed to be done. I sincerely feel that the colleagues that I have are the best colleagues I could have asked for and we had so much fun together it felt like we are family
I am very satisfied with the amount of guidance that were given to me. Members of staff are very helpful and are more than happy to provide further guidance if I am not clear on anything which rarely happened as most guidance were very detailed. It is also worth noting that I am even encouraged by members of staff to ask for further clarifications if I am unclear on anything.
On a daily basis, I would have a steady stream of workload with the occasional tight deadline depending on the nature of the task that was assigned to me. Workload are pretty consistent throughout the month with the weeks leading to the release generally being the busiest. I have never found myself bored with nothing to do and workload is always manageable. Working is such a capable team also meant that tasks could be reassigned to another colleague if necessary.
I was given loads of responsibility from the day I joined. You are treated as a normal consultant that is joining on a permanent basis, rather than as an intern that is joining for one year. Consequently Hays invest their time heavily in your individual training and development, enabling each person to manage the large amount of responsibility that they are given.
I am positive that my time spent at Mentor Graphics will not only aid me in my future studies but in life as well. I feel that I have acquired so many new skills such as attention to details, programming skills, systematic way of doing things etc in addition to developing existing skills such as communication skills, teamwork skills etc. In addition, the company also invest heavily in me by signing me up for training courses such as DISC training which is a training course designed to improve work productivity, workplace communication and interpersonal relationship. I have also participated in a time management training course which is designed to help me achieve a perfect work-life balance.
The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic. Everyone is extremely friendly and willing to help with an enquiries. As a result, the office feels warm and welcoming which further boosts employee morale, unity and performance. Training courses, company celebration and company trips are held every now and then for team building purposes.
Mentor Graphics spent a lot of time and effort developing an excellent programme for interns. There is an excellent 1 month training programme with previous interns that you receive upon joining the company in addition to other training courses that will be held. These all aids in your development to ensure that you are getting the most out of your placement.
Tremendously-Mentor Graphics is more than willing to invest their time to develop each placement student. Over the year, I have received a lot of trainings such as product training to enable me to familiarise myself with the products developed by Mentor Graphics, DISC training which is a training course designed to improve work productivity, teamwork and communication. I have also received a time management training which is meant to help me achieve a perfect work life balance.
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Opportunities are available and employment opportunities will be offered to interns who met those expectations upon completion of. Managers will also be in contact with interns to keep them informed of opportunities available.
Where I am based, there is a total of 5 interns which offers good social scene. We get to go to lunch together and have great conversations. Socials are set up by interns every now and then. In addition, there will also be events like company trips, product release celebration etc.
I lived in Milton Keynes and the salary that I was paid was more than enough to cover for rents, travels, drinks and meals with colleagues and so much more! Socialising was also fairly cheap, Milton Keynes have some nice places to eat and go out with the cost not being over the top.
Milton Keynes had quite a few clubs and restaurants where the other interns and I really enjoyed ourselves. I think the Nightlife opportunities were actually very good. I would recommend Milton Keynes to anyone.
Whether it's just generally doing whatever you want in Milton Keynes, or a few colleagues getting together after work to have a meal together, ice skating, cinemas, or even going to the gym, there's a lot of get into if you're willing.
