The Role
This was my first internship so I didn't really know what to expect but I can honestly say it was the most enjoyable and productive summer of my life. I have met amazing people, developed my skills and got paid to do it!
My team in particular were super friendly and I felt welcomed straight away. In terms of work, my ideas were valued, discussed and evaluated fairly.
I was given enough guidance to complete my projects successfully. The feedback i received was fair, helpful and not overly critical. I wasn't forced to do things in certain ways but felt free to ask for help if i needed it!
Busy enough to be learning and fulfilled but not busy enough to be stressed - it was the perfect workload!
I was responsible for creating my own application which was to be used by employees. I was given the independence to make my own design decisions for the product.
In terms of personal development, I have learned new programming languages, software development methodologies and worked with lots of tools i'd never even heard of. In regards to personal development - I have learned how to network, present, collaborate well with others and have also developed a lot of confidence in my work.
The Company
Friendly - you can go and talk to anyone at any point. There is a strong communication and collaboration culture. This really is a people company. Plenty of networking events to meet people you would have never met otherwise.
Considering this was the first year Amex offered a Tech internship program I can't fault it. A very strong internship with a good work-life balance. Could ask for support at any point pertaining to any matter from Tax Advice to general questions.
Lots of networking events. Sent to London about 5 times to meet interns from other faculties. Countless social events from seeing the Lion King to visiting a start up incubator. Many resources invested and lots of talks with senior employees. We even had a telepresence with the CEO who was in the USA!

The Culture
There were more nights spent with my colleagues than not.
I lived in Brighton and it was pretty expensive - comparable to London. Rent was about £400/month for a average sized room in a house share. Pint was about £4-5.
Pretty good - lots of bars and restaurants. Only went to a club a couple of times. Beach was super nice.
Go karting, paddle round the pier, outdoor cinema, gym etc
