About American Express

Be more at American Express

American Express’ heritage was built on service and has been sustained by innovation. Through our evolution from an express mail business in 1850, to one of the world’s largest card issuers by purchasing volume and a digital innovator, we’ve never been afraid to explore new possibilities and embrace the changing marketplace.

From our high employee satisfaction ratings to our many workplace awards, American Express is consistently recognised as a great place to work by people around the world. We offer talented individuals challenging work with purpose by embracing both innovation and tradition. As our company has grown and evolved, sometimes reinventing our business outright, we have never strayed from the customer-service ethos and values on which the company was built- trust, security, integrity, quality, good citizenship, respect and customer commitment.

Our Summer Internship Programme

As a summer intern at American Express, you’ll be encouraged to push yourself, generate new ideas, take calculated risks and collaborate across business lines.

Our 10 week programmes combine meaningful project work, professional development, networking and social activities in order to prepare our interns for success. Open to all penultimate-year students, they serve as a pipeline for our Graduate Programmes.

We have summer internship opportunities in Customer Service & Business Strategy, Finance, Marketing and Business Development, Risk & Information Management and Technology.

It was very enjoyable. The work was empowering, the community was supportive and the people you get to work with are inspiring. We got to work on a real world product which was entirely intern-owned. In our group, each of us played different roles each week, experiencing backend, frontend and middleware. Following an agile framework, we learnt how to ensure the scope of the project was well defined and develop a customer-centric mindset....

  • Software Engineering Intern

I enjoyed this internship to the max because even thought it was virtual Amex made sure that we had plenty opportunities to learn new skills, further develop the ones we already had and just enjoy ourselves in general. Everyone is approachable, even though I've never met someone, sending them an invite for a meeting or a simple message on slack, they responded to any question I had as soon as they had the time and if they didn't have an answer they redirect you to someone who most certainly does....

Placement Year (10 Months+)

BSc Accounting & Financial Management

Throughout my year, I didn’t feel like I was the intern as I was always treated like a permanent employee and was given the responsibilities of one. Being a part of a close-knit team and being valued has been very fulfilling.
