The Role
Really enjoyed my 8 weeks at XL Catlin, I learnt a great deal and met lots of interesting and welcoming people.
I felt valued by my colleagues as they gave me the chance to take ownership of certain tasks and responsibilities,
I got a lot of guidance and not only from my manager; my buddy, other people in my team, graduates and other people in my department all gave me support.
At first I wasn't that busy as I was settling in to the team, but after a few days I had a good amount of tasks to do without being too overwhelmed.
I was given a lot of independence and responsibility with my work, which I enjoyed.
Lots of technical skills which will assist me in the workplace in future, and also developed many of my soft skills which will help me more generally in life.
The Company
Due to being in the middle of an integration of two previously separate companies, there was a little uncertainty amongst some workers. Nonetheless, a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Was only there for a short period over the summer so that limits what could reasonably be expected in terms of training and development.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Would be a fantastic company to work for, striking a balance between working well and having fun.
The Culture
Social scene was quiet due to the small number of summer interns taken on.
Living and socialising in London is very expensive, but often remuneration reflects this.
Lots of bars and pubs in the area which were busy and had a good atmosphere
Few activities available due to it being only a short stint working at the company.
