    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the company - they look after you very well with free lunches, umbrellas, biscuits, sweets etc. There are lots of after work drinks to get to know your colleagues and interns better so you feel very welcome as soon as you start. However, the work could have been more interesting on a day-to-day basis.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My work seemed to be going to an actual cause which was nice as it made me feel more valued. Everyone is so friendly too that it's easy to ask for feedback and to kjnow you're doing well.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • You are assigned a buddy and a line manager so there's always someone to ask for help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I began with lots of work and was kept busy but as I finished my project there was a lack of work coming through and so became more bored.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Lots of supoprt and I was able to take the lead on my project. Asking people to do things for me was slightly daunting at first and then you realise everyone is there and willing to help and so it is easy to take up more responsibility for yourself and the project.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have already done 18 months' experience at Engineering Consultancies and picked up most of the skills here to help me with my studies but it is always useful to practice skills in the workplace and get to know others and how to work with new people.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A good atmosphere and was nice to be able to chat with other colleagues as you worked.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • A good set up with an initial training week followed by a mid-term assessment and final assessment and presentation. We were also able to organise meetings to discuss the graduate programme and get more information.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The training week was absolutely invaluable and set us up really well. There was also the opportunity to visit Lloyd's and shadow other departments for an afternoon if you were interested. There didn't seem to be an barriers to being able to enhance your experience.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They are very good if you definitely want to be working in insurance and I would recommend the company to anyone interested. However, I have decided to persue a future career with another company I did work experience with since I found their work more interesting, but that is a personal choice.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We usually did Thursday/Friday drinks with the interns, joining up with our teams when other drinks were organised. Most of the work drinks were paid for too so made the night very cheap! I would have liked it if the interns had gone out together more but that is dependent of the intake of people each year.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Expensive. It's London. But totally worth it to be able to go and spend your evenings in rooftop bars.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Amazing fun - but expensive again as it's London.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Pretty low. Not obvious whether sports teams exist, even though they do. But work drinks happen at least 1-2 per month and most of the company is invited each time.
