The Role
My time at XL Catlin has been very interesting. I have really enjoyed the work that I have done especially looking at various businesses and trying to understand the areas where there is exposure to claims.
My colleagues were very welcoming, however very busy, so it was difficult to pin down time with them.
I was given excellent support and guidance by most colleagues but not so much by others.
About half of the time I was busy and about half of the time I was not. However, the half where I was not busy I used to produce a presentation which I was expected to give at the end of the internship.
Again, I was given quite a lot of responsibility by some colleagues but not so much by others -as expected during an internship.
My degree has nothing to do with insurance so I probably will not gain anything directly relating to my degree. I have learnt about time management and that is important for everything. I have also learnt about the operation of a corporate environment.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was really chilled and really friendly.
The placement itself was really well organised, however the work within the placement was much less well organised.
There were two days at the beginging of the internship for training. These were mainly talks from various people around the business (including a talk from the CEO).

After the internship, your performance within your sector is assessed and you may or may not be offered a place on the graduate programme. So if they like you, you're in!
The Culture
Insurance is all about relationships and socialising so yes.
I was in London so it was very expensive.
Very good.
As I was only there for 2 months and was living with friends I did not really attempt to get involved with work related - after work activities such as sports etc, so i'm not sure
