The Role
At first I really enjoyed the placement but as time went on I began to get very tired of listening to people complaining all day. It becomes very wearsome. Especially when you weren't the cause of their issues.
I practically worked in a call-centre so there was no chance to chat with my colleagues. Thus I didn't really make friends with or feel valued by my colleagues.
My manager was fantastic. I always felt like I could approach him if anything was troubling me. I can't fault his support.
I was constantly on the phone talking to customers or on the computer emailing them. Though the work wasn't strenuous at all so I never felt like I had a big workload. I just got on with it casually at my own pace.
Very little responsibility was bestowed upon me. I was just one of a number of people that worked in the office doing the same job.
To be frank, my placement didn't really help me in anyway. I was working in customer services when I really wanted to be doing a marketing placement. If I'd had longer to chose my placement, and not been under so much pressure to accept whatever I was offered, I wouldn't have decided to spend my placement year at McDonalds as it really wasn't beneficial to me or my career.
The Company
Everyone was consumed with their work all day so there was no opportunities to socialise and have fun. The atmosphere in the office was terrible really. No one seemed to be enjoying being at work.
The placement was very well organised. I think that because the company receive so many placement students every year they know how best to utilise them in their business.
Absolutely zilch was invested in me. I was just another placement student that would serve them well for 10 months and then go back to university and never be seen again.

As a company McDonalds are very appealing, however I wouldn't ever consider working in their customer services office. If I was offered the chance to work in their marketing department I would bite their hand off as they are a very established and reputable company.
The Culture
No one knew each other so very little socialising occurred. Plus the Christmas bash was probably the most awkward night I have ever had. Forced conversation between people who don't really care about each other is painful.
Very expensive. I struggled on my wage to even pay rent and I flat-share with one of my friends.
London is fantastic for nights out. There's something for everyone.
When you're not very friendly with any of your colleagues, you don't find yourself being invited to many social events. That was my experience on placement.
