    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement experience was amazing, the opportunities I got are second to none. I experienced what it is to like to have a full time job, where they treat you like an actual employee.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • NetApp's culture makes it like a family. The team I worked in was very close even though it was spread out over several countries. They treat you like a person and allow you to express your opinion on take it on board.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Even though there was a lot of support there, they made it too much like a real role. You had to chase your manager for assistance, they wouldn't come to you and check how you are getting on, what's your work load like. For an internship this can be difficult to manage but suppose its a good lesson to learn for the future,

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It would come in waves, sometimes there would be too much work with a tight deadline and then there would be some with a long deadline so no need to rush it. This meant you always had to be on your toes and proactively looking for work.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given an insane amount of responsibility in my opinion, especially for an intern. I was managing campaigns from just 5 months in and then the day to day contact for agencies not long after that. This could be a struggle for some people but they adjust it to what you can handle.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It gave me a whole new look into marketing as performing B2B marketing where in my degree you only learnt about B2C was an eye opener. It also allowed me to put things that I had learnt like theories and practices into practice.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere would vary, it can be quiet in the office and then could be really busy depending on the day. Eitherway there is such a friendly atmosphere that you can talk to anyone at any time and they would be happy to talk back and listen.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement set up was a bit last minute. My total application took 3 weeks from me applying and starting. Luckily I was in a position to react to this and take the job. I know this has been a key area to work on for the recruitment team and they are taking advice from the interns on how to improve this.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We received 1 half of a personal development training but the second half never got organised due to the organiser leaving the organisation. However the training we did receiver really improved my skills and showed me weaknesses, which on placement is the best time to learn them so you can develop them for in the future.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    International Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There isn't a graduate scheme so you would come back as a full time member of staff. However there would have to be a position open for you to move into, which doesn't seem likely.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We all got on really well which made the internship even better. However due to various reasons there wasn't much social life outside of work which was a bit of a disappointment for me. This could change year on year though depending on the other interns.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of living was standard London prices for houses. Luckily with a university in the town it means there are nights out you can do for cheap and easy travel into central London, means you can easily have a social life.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There is a university near by so there are plenty of student nights to go out to and easy transport into central London.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There is a football club on a Monday after work but difficult to attend unless you drive. Appart from that there isn't a lot else. A few interns and I would play tennis at the free courts round the corner once a week but this was organised by ourselves.
