The Role
Thoroughly enjoyable year. I was extremely impressed by the way I was looked after and how organised the placement was. I was given real projects which had a real impact on the company which gave me a lot of confidence in myself as the company trusted me to deliver the numbers. I was given a wide range of projects from different sectors of the business, all the way from Engineering to Sales.
Everyone was very welcoming and very helpful. I did not come across a single person who was not helpful or accommodating. This was something I was apprehensive about at the start but I quickly realised that Morgan wanted me to succeed and help was always available. I made some good friends who I hope to keep in touch with.
As stated before help was always available. I was lucky to be under the guidance of a very strong senior management team who supported me throughout the placement. I was able to learn many good skills through their support.
I was given a wide range of projects which had to be time managed and organised. There were times at the start of my placement where I rushed through some projects which gave me a lot of free time but I quickly learnt how to balance everything.
I was given a lot of tough real life projects. Sometimes placements can be tedious for students as they do not get a real experience, My friends at different companies were given made up projects which made the placement year seem like another year at university. I, on the other hand, was given real projects which had real numbers and money involved. This was difficult but worthwhile and allowed me to gain and develop a lot of different skills.
I gained good experience in professional report writing and learnt a lot about the Aerospace market. I am studying to be an Aerospace Engineer so it was very beneficial to learn how many different market sectors there are where there is a growing need for Aerospace Engineers. The placement also allowed me to gain a broad understanding of machinery and how parts are manufactured for major Aerospace companies.
The Company
Very positive atmosphere. The team I was a part of, were very helpful and a lot of fun to work with. There was a good balance of work and play which made me appreciate office life. I was able to form good work based relationships with my colleagues which is a very important skill.
It was very well set up by the actual division/site that I was working on. The manager had a clear set of goals that he wanted me to achieve and helped me throughout. I would have been grateful for more information on the area before commencing my placement. I did bring this up with the team and they have since addressed this problem and come up with very informative leaflets for future placements/graduates.
I was given good training on how to run machines/equipment on site. I would have been grateful for a some training at the start of my placement on presentations etc. However, this was not necessary due to previous university experiences. I did not need much extensive training, but I am aware that this is available for those who may need it.

The company run a graduate leadership programme which is developing very strongly. The company want to invest in young people such as myself to be the future leaders of the company. I have met many graduates who have a lot of positive comments regarding the programme and are now in very important roles across the globe. The company invests a lot of money into the scheme and wants to continue doing this.
The Culture
I did not really interact with anyone on a social level as I was the youngest on site. However there were a few events for colleagues who were leaving the business etc.
It is surprisingly expensive but nothing that was not affordable with my wages.
Not a great place to socialise during the night, there are surrounding cities and towns which offer much more. My site however was in a quiet remote location.
Apart from the gym and sports clubs there is not much the area offers in terms of activities outside work.
